According to the above document, an interesting choice of frame line sizes. I’m really surprised they didn’t go with a 50/75/90/135 but instead went 60/75/90/120/150.

I haven’t done the math yet based on Q3 28 framelines, but maybe these correspond to those same multiplication factors? Or MP size?

Also strange is that the new 70-200 2.8 has rather interesting stop indicators on the barrel: 70/90/120/160/200.

Seems like three different product development teams didn’t bother to check-in with each other…my .02/cents.

I guess Leica has abandoned the 135mm.

I can do that with an M without IS... And I am old. I think your technique needs some refining.

But can you do it with your left hand in the pocket? 🤣

The good news is that we’re getting an update also for the Q3 and SL3 with the new Leica Look.
The chrome look has been available on the Leica app for some time now, so it was reasonable to expect a firmware update after the new camera release (the same happened when the SL3 was released).

Here's my hot take based on absolutely nothing: I don't really understand it. For me the Q appeal is entirely down to the 'look' you can draw from that fast, wide-angle lens.

If I was going to go down the mid-range APO route I'd get an SL and an APO-SL.

My view is that Leica have sensibly looked at how to further monetise one of their most successful models ever and have looked at Ricoh’s move with the GRIII / GRIIIX 28/40mm (equivalent) combo.

I doubt many buyers of the 40mm GRIIIX don’t own a 28mm GRIII.

I suspect many buyers of the Q43 will be existing Q owners who want a “less wide” option or will be those who have wanted a Q but have been put off by the 28 FOV.
I don’t think sales of the “standard” Q will be affected.

Having established the body form/evf/screen/software etc adding a different lens only should mean that sales targets will necessarily be much lower to recoup the investment - so decent sales = profits. The “hard yards” were done on the Q(28)

150mm f7.0  =  Crop 3,5x - 4,92 MP

This is what the latest AI upscaling, denoising and sharpening tools are for.😏

Mind you, my first digital camera was a 2Mp Nikon p&s - I couldn't see why I'd ever need more than 2000 pixels on the long edge.

I wonder how many will sell - sure, there is interest among Leica Q fans, but for the general photography public and quite a few vloggers it will be just a vastly overpriced fixed lens point-and-shoot of limited use. At least the Q3 it could be presented as a cropping type standard zoom camera and the 28 mm AOV matches the smartphones that most of the world population is attuned to. A 43 mm ff lens needs an exceedingly long selfie stick.  I doubt that there is a viable market outside dedicated Leica Q users.

Jaapv, I seem to recall people saying the similar things about the original Q 116.  This camera intrigues me because I loved my X-Vario (regret selling it), and I'm a normal/short tele shooter.  I suspect I'm not alone.  Although M is my primary system, Q is great for banging around skiing, mountaineering, light travel, cycling, etc, when I don't want to risk a $20k+ kit.  I hope it adds internal memory and Content Credentials.

I have the SL, with zooms and the lux. Had an APO.

Portability is a big difference. The Q can do with a small strap, the SL has a bigger one due to its weight with the zooms. Macro is additional with the Q.

I would never carry the SL every day with me. The Q will do this…

The Q did indeed sell sufficiently well for the reasons I stated but this one is handicapped as a universal camera by its focal length. I would be happy to be proven wrong. I think the X Vario was a bit of a commercial disaster. A good camera intended to save the X line. But it didn’t.

The Q is said to be one of their best selling lines, and it doesn't have to have high market penetration among the general public and vloggers to get that success in Leica terms. I doubt it is just existing Leica owners buying them. It's an entry level product for those who have heard of Leica, can afford it, and yet are nervous about the alien manual rangefinder concept and don't want the complexity of an in-your-face big ILC. It can easily be sold as a point and shoot from which the user can learn and evolve from the auto-everything mode - all the time with full frame IQ to compete with the best.
