Updated firmware yesterday but hasn't cured the over exposure problem.  It seems to be linked to auto ISO.  First photo below, 1/250 shutter speed at f5.6 and the camera chose 12,500 ISO.  Took another photo, same result.  Popped the battery out, took another photo, shutter speed 1/320 at f5.6 and correctly exposed at 4,000 ISO.  Both photos straight out of the camera and no post processing.

This is hugely disappointing ☹️ M11 Mono and 35mm APO lens

Could you explain step by step (if possible) how to reproduce this error? Is it possible on a color/normal M11?

It’s just random and occurs on both my m11p and m11m. Seems to be sporadic, didn’t have it for 3,000 exposure and then a few times over a month.

I have the same issue sporadically- it does seem to happen more often when I’m using live view but it’s so random it’s hard to know if this is right.

It  has turned me into a serial chimper as I want to know if the shot I took is overexposed and needs to be reshot. Annoying but it’s not a dealbreaker for an amateur like me whose not on a crucial shoot.

@PeterKelly you have seen this with an M11 Monochrom, or with an M11 (color), or both as well?

Unable to connect camera via fotos after update. “Camera is not connected” every time I try to download a picture wirelessly. Tried forgetting device on my phone and camera and repairing but still persists. Camera otherwise works fine.

Might be a fotos app problem.

The phenomenon of occasional extreme overexposure has existed since the M11 was released and all M11 models have it (M11-P, M11-Monochrom). Since firmware 1.6.1 it has become less common, but it is still there. The camera usually raises the ISO by about three stops out of the blue for one image (sometimes several in a row), but sometimes it also increases the exposure time.

I've had the overexposure thing a few times, it's not often enough to be a huge issue but does seem to be lurking around. I'm going away soon for a few days and will be taking the M so hopefully it'll be trouble free with no freezing or overexposure issues.

As others have reported here it's random and I only have the M11 Mono so can't comment on other variants.  In my case it only increased the ISO and other parameters remained unchanged.  The camera continued to take over exposed photos until switched off and on again, then it was back to normal.  The last time it occurred I didn't pop the battery out, just switched off and on.  

Interestingly, in the portrait I took I was able to fully recover the blown highlights.  Didn't think that would have been possible, but it's still annoying!

I've got quite a few images on the new firmware now between M11P and M11M, over 1,000 that's for sure. I've really tortured the cameras in ways that previously drove crashes, eg writing to the SD card, plugging into the computer and then not formatting everything to ensure all was clear.

Touch wood no crashes so far which is a marked improvement.

Has to be said that when I only used internal and formatted every time my crash rate was <1 in 3,000 anyway but using the behaviour above it was more like 1 in 30 so seems to be a marked improvement.

How's everyone else getting on? Have we got a stable camera?

Since a week i use my M11 every day (i am on Holiday) and i had no crashes at all

Minor freezes at startup that i seem to almost eliminate by disabling dust protection.

Same here, although I've had that problem for a while.  I just bought a new UHS-II card (all my cards were UHS-I) and the problem still persists.  Did the delete, unpair, add and re-pair bit and it still doesn't work well.

 

Weird thing is that everything else is working fine (with the fotos app), it's just when trying to download a photo that it disconnects.

Are you on the Fotos app beta? It will be a Fotos thing is my guess.

That's good to hear. I'm on 2.1.2 now, not used the camera that much yet, but so far no glitches.

Update on M11 went fine, but since then, sometimes the camera won't turn on. I have to take out the battery and the SD card (all the way), reinsert both and then it's fine. Haven't had the freeze issue in a long time though. Exasperating.

I also own a Nikon D850 since 2018. Only one firmware update, and that was to ADD functionality (support of CF Express), not fix bugs. Because there are no bugs. Ever.

Leica software engineers need to go to the same school as Nikon software engineers.

I’m using FOTOS beta with background transfer for a while.  The first beta expired and I got the regular FOTOS that offered the firmware upgrade.  Then I remembered to check Testflight and a new beta release was there.  Did not have the camera connected in between so did not do the upgrade, but the beta does not offer it!  So stuck on 2.1.1 but background transfer is such a win that will wait.

M11-P user over on youtube complaining of much the same thing. Someone in the comments telling him he needs to half-press the shutter release after switching his camera on. Not sure that's ideal. 

*Edit* - just noticed he posted this a month ago, before firmware 2.1.2, so disregard.
