Crowmagnon Posted July 16, 2024 Share #1 Posted July 16, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys. I'm trading some cameras and I have a opportunity to get one lens. I have 50 lux asph and sumarit 2.5 already. Which lens worth adding to give me unique results than the other 50s I own. Apo? Or f1 noctilux? Which one is worth adding under my current line up of 50? Advertisement Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Hi Crowmagnon, Take a look here Dilemma!! f1 noctilux or apo cron. Help. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted July 16, 2024 Share #2 Posted July 16, 2024 For photographic results, thesen are two totally different lenses. What would you be using it for? Utmost precision or pictorial expression?
Crowmagnon Posted July 16, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted July 16, 2024 (edited) I shoot summarit for street and lux for portraits on my m246. I did couple of boudoir on conon 50mm f1.2 ltm. Which I really liked. That shoot sparked me to get looking into noctilux. But before I was gasing for apo which I heard its amazing on monochrom. Hence the dilemma Edited July 16, 2024 by Crowmagnon

The 50mm Summilux ASPH is also an APO lens although it is not stated as such. The improvement of an APO Summicron won't be huge (although it's worth it to some). With an f/1 Noctilux you will experience a big difference at all apertures.
Robert Blanko Posted July 16, 2024 Share #5 Posted July 16, 2024 I would buy the f/1.0 Noctilux (not the current f/0.95 version). As Evikne said, the APO won't add too much over the ASPH Summilux for the intended purpose.
grahamc Posted July 16, 2024 Share #6 Posted July 16, 2024 another vote for 50/1 as it is a truly unique lens. you will find it literally paints - which you may like for some of your uses
TheGodParticle/Hari Posted July 16, 2024 Share #7 Posted July 16, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) +1 for the noctilux 50/f1 I have the 50lux asph and the apo50, the noctilux will give you something your other lenses can’t
jakontil Posted July 17, 2024 Share #8 Posted July 17, 2024 Definitely a noct f1 since u shoot for portraits
fil-m Posted July 17, 2024 Share #9 Posted July 17, 2024 Depends on what you are trying to achieve. Portraits: with the Noct you can make dreamy or moody portraits that none of the Lux, APO Cron or Summarit can match. With the APO Cron, you can make ultra sharp portraits with amazing clarity (and over the whole frame). The Noct brings more novelty knowing that you already have the Lux 50. As for street, the Noct 50 is "interesting" but not an everyday lens, it'll be quite difficult to use wide open IMO. The Cron 50 is great for street and provides an edge over the Summarit however, a slightly missed focus will be way more visible in the final image due its biting sharpness and strong separation of the in focus area As always, tough choices with compromises to make

lexffm Posted July 17, 2024 Share #11 Posted July 17, 2024 But the 1.0 is a "very demanding lens", you mustn't forget that. Which version is it?
a.noctilux Posted July 17, 2024 Share #12 Posted July 17, 2024 The Noctilux has many minus points but in use it's a joy (for me ! ) and results are "no other lenses can compete". I use (d?) happily the E58 1/50 for many years, but I use more happily now the Summarit-M 2.5/50 when I can. Even Summilux-M 50mm lenses seem a bit large. I hope that in near future, I will use the nice Noctilux 1/50 more. Not in a hurry though, I know that the lens is always waiting for future use.
a.noctilux Posted July 17, 2024 Share #13 Posted July 17, 2024 Size wise, some years ago I took some combos with Summilux and Noctilux. M5 is the best friend of Noctilux 1/50 and M-A is just sweet dream for "old" Summilux 50mm. Welcome, dear visitor! Sebastian S Posted July 17, 2024 Share #15 Posted July 17, 2024 as you mentioned the canon 1.2 - the nokton 1.2 is also a superb lens, one of the best from voigtländer imo, and some tests stated measured better iq then the noctiluxes

cheeseyk Posted July 17, 2024 Share #17 Posted July 17, 2024 I have recently aquired a 50/1 V4. I'm definitely on a learning curve with this one!!
Jan1985 Posted July 17, 2024 Share #18 Posted July 17, 2024 I had the both Noct 0.95 and APO. Both are stunning in their worlds. Would choose the f1 noct. But it depends on what is your aim. You have expect a lower keeper rate with the noct f1 even with a lot of practice. so when your aim is to do commercial than the LUX or the APO fits better. But when you have time and passion that the noct is the clear winner.
a.noctilux Posted July 17, 2024 Share #19 Posted July 17, 2024 @Crowmagnon if your choice is Noctilux, two things to remember : - don't give up after a while for the well known "bulge/weight/soft/VF hide/etc." - this nice lens needs some time and practices to master, then you are the only one to know if it's for you or not
Crowmagnon Posted July 17, 2024 Author Share #20 Posted July 17, 2024 @a.noctilux True that. I will practice with it alteast 2 years to fully master it.
