Danner Posted July 14, 2024 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) The IIIf deserves to be used, but I never do because of the range/view finder situation. The Summitar does get some use on the M6. Since I have the 28mm external finder, looking for a 28mm to zone-focus, so the IIIf gets used! Suggestions for a compact sharp lens? Not looking for a vintage feel, but rather modern and crisp. Thanks for your thoughts... Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 Hi Danner, Take a look here 28mm LTM for my IIIf?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted July 14, 2024 Share #2 Posted July 14, 2024 Voigtlander Skopar. Or go for the 25mm ‘snapshot’ Skopar which has clicks stops for zone focusing.

erl Posted July 15, 2024 Share #4 Posted July 15, 2024 I don't have a recommendation for your request, but I do suggest, if your budget permits, to acquire an external VF to match your wonderful 50mm Summitar. Focussing will remain a challenge, but overall functionality and pleasure will improve greatly.

Ko.Fe. Posted July 15, 2024 Share #6 Posted July 15, 2024 Good, checked on Leica copy of Orion-15. Sharp and compact. For "modern" it is Voigtlander Ultron 28 1.9 ASPH, but it is not very compact.
250swb Posted July 15, 2024 Share #7 Posted July 15, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) The LTM Voigtlander 28mm f/3.5 Skopar is a wonderful little lens and very sharp, I use mine on both LTM and M Leica's. There is a description of it on this page if you scroll down https://cameraquest.com/voigtlen.htm
jankap Posted July 15, 2024 Share #8 Posted July 15, 2024 I use the Canon 28mm f/2.8. But not on the IIIf, but on the fp. If it is sharp, I don´t know. It simply is sharp enough. If it is sharp in the sense of sexy: yes!
jankap Posted July 15, 2024 Share #9 Posted July 15, 2024 (edited) By the way, have there ever been, lenses sold or known as UNscharf? So, from wide open to far closed? Firstly, there are the tolerance parameters in the construction department. What equipment has the factory? Secondly, there is the final check. Monday samples! Thirdly, there is the criterion depending on the wallet of the potential buyers of the lens. Fourthly, what market is aimed at, 1000 or 100.000 pieces? BernardC Posted July 15, 2024 Share #10 Posted July 15, 2024 Another vote for the Voigtlander 28mm f/2.8 Color-Skopar. It's available new, relatively cheap compared to most vintage alternatives, compact, has a modern rendering, and you can pick between black or silver finish. 2

Jerry Attrik Posted July 15, 2024 Share #12 Posted July 15, 2024 Another vote for the Canon f1:2.8. Chrome finish lens to match a matt chrome camera (like my iiif).
Danner Posted July 17, 2024 Author Share #13 Posted July 17, 2024 Thank you to all, for your excellent suggestions. I'm going to watch some trusted for-sale boards and dealers for a good sample to turn up. If nothing turns up, probably get a new f/2.8 color skopar.
ramarren Posted July 29, 2024 Share #14 Posted July 29, 2024 (edited) The new Color-Skopar 28mm f/2.8 looks lovely! And seems a bargain at CameraQuest's current price. I have the old Color-Skopar 28mm f/3.5 ... it also looks lovely and works beautifully on my IIIc. I've had this lens for some time now, used it on several digital cameras with adapters, and have to say it is a fine performer on all of them but works *best* on film with the IIIc. The IIIc I have is relatively new to me and it was thoroughly serviced just before I acquired it. I have to say that its viewfinder and rangefinder are far cleaner and easier to use than my memory of the IIc, IIf, and IIIf that I had in the past had me believing. My eyes are certainly no better now than they were forty years ago, but I can see the RF focus alignment in this IIIc very easily. The built-in 50mm viewfinder is still a bit of a peep show, but eh? that's why there are lovely accessory viewfinders, I guess. Danner Posted August 5, 2024 Author Share #15 Posted August 5, 2024 Couldn't find one out there, so I picked up the f/2.8 Color-Skopar. Do you like the black lens on a silver Barnack? Just loaded it with HP5, looking forward to the morning... Welcome, dear visitor! jankap Posted August 5, 2024 Share #16 Posted August 5, 2024 (edited) The leather is black too. But I think, that the colour of the camera, does not influence the pictures. In no way!🤣 Edited August 5, 2024 by jankap

It is a Leica II D - really a Leica I A (1929) converted around 1933-34, but everything except the lens units inside the original 50/3.5 (which you don’t see here) was allegedly replaced. So the answer is a II D

Mine is 11 o'clock, so I though probably converted before the model III was introduced.
