Peak Design Slide vs Slide Lite

I know the discussion around which strap to get has been discussed multiple times here, but there's one thing I haven't been able to work out from the previous discussions. 

I have decided on the Peak Design Slide design, but I'm trying to figure out whether I should go for the regular Slide, or the Slide Lite. The heaviest combo would be the SL with a 24-70/2.8, but I also use the SL with M lenses. It seems that 1.5kg/3lb is about the sweet spot for moving up to the regular slide, but this seems overkill for the M lenses. Does anyone have any experience with using the Lite version with a SL/24-70 combo? Is it comfortable when carrying the camera around all day?

I haven't tried the slide or slide lite, but I use the leash which is even thinner. I've been using it for around 3 years, regularly with 24-90mm lens and occasionally with 90-280mm and I find it to be comfortable. I first starting using it in winter where the extra clothes also give some padding - I thought I'd need a wider strap for summer time but I've been fine with it, including on some several hour photo hikes. I sometimes think about getting a slide lite but the leash packs up really small in my bag, gets in the way less.

+1 for the PD Leash, I use it with my SL2 and SL2s and the 24-90. Only use the Lite or larger Slide if I’m using the 90-280mm. Great products. I place one of their anchors into the tripod thread and attach one end of the strap to that. Makes the camera body sit better to my side.

I have a few of each width and change up depending on lens, day and just how I feel. That’s one of the advantages of the PD system. You don’t have to choose just one or the other. My Slide Lite get the most use but not by much over the other two.

The Leash for me, with one anchor attached to the included mini base plate.  This allows the camera (SL2) with 24-90 to hang flat against hip or back, without bounce.

Leash attached to PD standard plate for me. I use this combo for hiking in the mountains with the SL2-S + either SL 16-35 or 24-90.

I used to use the PD anchor mount but went to the PD standard plate because it’s Arca / RSS clamp compatible so I don’t have to swap anchors/plates when I want to use the camera on a tripod and still keep things lighter than a L-plate or RSS base plate.

Thanks all for the advice, although now the decision has gone from 2 to 3 choices to include the Leash  Guess I'll be ordering the Leash and the Slide Lite and see which one works better

I use slide lite on SL2S and leash on Q3

the slide lite is often removed in favour of the clutch though

I opted for the Slide lite, (2) IMHO it's more than adequate for the SL series Cameras including with their heavy lenses attached, take a look what Leica supply's with our SL series Models, NO way the residual strength of the peak designed straps.

So by all means check them out and see what's comfortable for you.

I use the Lite.. sl2s and everything from 24-90 and 50 lux to the 35 asph. It’s great. I love it that it doesnt get stuck on clothes and hair like grippy ones do. Seems plenty strong..

 

i found issues with the bigger more substantial ones where they get in the way when you’re trying to grip the camera, as there’s no webbing or anything, and the padded section goes right up to the anchor. Not a fan. (And i’m a total peak design fanboy too..!)

Slide light until you surpass a certain weight.  When I still had the port anchor and would attach it to the starboard anchor ( S1 with sig 105/1.4 ) - that needed the BIGGER, but SL with Sig 85/1.4 is fine on the light.

PD Slide light on a pair PD’s quick disconnects. In the past two years lugged an M10R on several week’s long adventures without any hiccups. Two months ago an SL2 was added in the mix with the same setup. Small Sigma primes only on the SL2 but so far no issues.

I own all three, but primarily use the leash with my SL2-S, including with the 24-90 lens and also M lenses.  The Slide to me is my least favorite and find that its design causes the buckles/adjustments and the strap just seems to get in the way of using the camera (e.g. get in front of the EVF).  I have my Slide Lite attached to and use as a carrying strap with the PK Design tripod.  I just was on a two week trip to Western Australia and Northern Territory with my M11-P and SL2-S.  I accidentally forgot my PK Design Leash and had to use the Slide Lite and found it super frustrating and uncomfortable with my SL2-S.  For M 11-P I have a nice Leica Leather strap that is permanently attached.
