  1. Fuji just stuffed IBIS in their new X100VI. Apparently only added a mm or so in size. My X100V is a smaller form factor than my M10R. And it has an OVF and an EVF. Of course, no RF system, and that will take up space. Certainly there are differences - FF vs APSC and the M supports interchangeable lenses, both of which add to the size of the M. However, it seems to me Leica has the real estate inside the M bodies to provide EVF and IBIS. That would be a very expensive M.
  2. Jochen, your website includes wonderful photography! Specifically, I saw that a lot of your BW images included cloudy skies. In my own BW photography my favorites (nearly) always feature cloudy overcast skies. Like you, I am a Capture One user. However, a few years ago I began using Silver Efex Pro, and that has been a game changer for my cloudy-day BW images. The structure and intensity sliders in conjunction with selective adjustment points have dramatically improved many of my BW images. And, I like that I can now "round-trip" an image from Capture One to Silver Efex Pro and back again. Very handy. Certainly, adjustments can sometimes be taken too far (guilty as charged), but overall, Silver Efex Pro has become an integral part of my BW workflow.
  3. Last year my M10R suffered the same issue. Contacted Leica NJ then sent the camera body to them. I had the camera back in hand about six weeks later. I’ll post link to my post on this site. My experience with Leica NJ was positive.
  4. Is this effect less noticeable with longer lenses? Specifically, I will be visiting your neck of the woods in March. Planning to bring along either a CV 90 2.8 APO Skopar or a TE 135mm 4 for use on an M10R and an SL2. Trying to keep the kit tight and was planning only the Sigma 28-70 2.8 as native for the SL2. May rethink that on the wide end and include a Sigma 24 as well (physical size of a 24-70 2.8 seems huge to me after so long with the M system). Am hoping an adapted 90 or 135 will be fine on the SL2. Thoughts?
  5. Apologies for dreading up an old post. Stuart - is the “acuteness” of the angle of light a result of being an adapted lens? For instance, would an adapted Elmarit M 24mm f/2.8 show the same issues as the adapted ZM 25mm Biogon? Or are the issues you described due to the lens design characteristics of the ZM? Thanks, Jim
  6. I did not know this. Thank you.
  7. Great input from all, many thanks! I feel I am in a better place to make decisions on the kit I will bring along. Looking forward to the adventure. And, as further info, about three weeks following my return from Iceland, my wife and I along with our daughter and her husband will travel to Scotland for three weeks. That trip is totally DIY as we'll be renting a car and driving about 1200 miles. Stops include Edinburgh, Glencoe, Portree, Inverness, and Kirkwall. Should be fun. And, I suspect the Iceland kit will also be the Scotland kit. Again, many thanks for the guidance. Cheers, Jim
  8. Monopod...hmmm...very interesting idea. About two years ago I installed a Leofoto VH-10 on my 40 year old Bogon 3018 aluminum monopod. My goodness did it breathe new life into that sturdy piece of kit. What had been buried in the back of the closet for a few decades now sees (almost) regular use. At full extension, the added inches of the VH-10 "head" brings the M10R view finder to perfect, full standing height of eye for me (at 6'4"). And very lightweight as well. More to think about. Yes, I've given some thought to renting an M10R. Perhaps for short term, however for the two-plus weeks I'll need it, it's almost cheaper to buy one. Many thanks for the input!
  9. Very interesting that you brought up documenting this travel as my son's trip. Recently I had the same thought. And my standard kit is perfect in that role. For sure I'll capture images of Iceland's vast grandeur but perhaps I recast my part in the trip. Hmmm...lots to think about. Copy all re: binoculars. Several others have made the same recommendation. I'm fortunate in that the view from the south side of my home is quite nice and I keep two sets of binoculars at the ready. A 7x50 and an 8x42. Both are Nikon but neither are high end models. However, both are also a bit larger than I want to carry to Iceland (or anywhere else outside my home not involving my truck). Which model do you recommend? Yes, I view a second camera as a must. Best if compatible with M lenses. I've been thinking hard about an SL2 as I believe it well compliments the M system. And my eyes are such that at some point I may need help focusing. Plus, I really don't want to have to learn another company's menu system. And while one might recommend a second M10R, or variant, I can buy a used SL2 for over $1,000 less than I can a used M10 (of any variety). Clearly a first world problem but one that keeps me up at night. Many thanks for the input!
  10. Copy all re: Think Tank rain cover, many thanks!
  11. sinjun - back in my younger, stronger days, I was known to say, quite often, “it’s not a matter of whether you use it, it’s about knowing you could if you wanted.” I brought along everything I had. And those days started in the leather camera bag era. Multiple bodies, lots of lenses, flashes, cables, multiple roles of film, etc. I’m convinced some of my current back issues go back to hauling around a lot of gear. Today, my kit fits comfortably in a small Ona Bowery bag. No fuss, no muss, less is more. That said, do you travel with a backup body?
  12. Thank you Professor, your response targets my question regarding 90mm vs 135mm. I’m thinking the 135mm may be the better choice. And your mention of bringing along the Olympus addresses concerns I have in regard to backup. Iceland is an expensive trip for me and I’d hate for the failure of a camera body to put me out of commission on a photography tour. My M10R already made one 42 day trip to Leica USA (that story documented on this Forum) so I know stuff happens. As noted in the post above, backup is one of the reasons I’m considering the SL2. The M lenses I use most often can all be used on that system. BTW, I couldn’t agree more regarding puffin photos, the more the merrier I say!
  13. Did you bring along a backup camera? Part of my thinking with respect to the SL2 is as a backup. In the 127 answers referenced a few responses above are discussions on the need for a second body/system just in case. Especially given the variety of meteorological conditions one might encounter.
  14. An important safety tip, many thanks sir!
