I updated via the app and it went seamlessly. I took the precaution of saving my user profiles to an SD card (but performed the update with a freshly formatted card installed). My user profiles were still intact after the update anyway.

I have been experiencing occasional freezes (spinning icon, fixed by removing battery, most recent shots usually lost/missing)  so am interested to see if this is improved now.

Likewise, I updated both my m11-p and m11 mono through the app with no issues whatsoever.  My issues were mostly related to corrupted files or problems around SD cards but both cameras worked fine using the built-in memory which is what i was resorting to doing to work around those.  I've now enabled back writing to the cards and so far so good but to be fair, the issue only manifested sporadically so time will tell.

I was in the betatest of the firmware. There was a bug in version 2.1.0 regarding exposure compensation that Leica eliminated in 2.1.1 so that the camera behaves as we were used to.

Decided to be brave and updated both M11 and M11M. Took a few shots in quick succession and hit the Play button immediately (with 2.0.2 this would have sometimes caused either camera to freeze): no issues to report for the time being.

Same… no change… It has functioned in that manner since day one for me on the M11P. Turn the wheel - Exp compensation operates. Push the wheel in, my chosen function is active.

So they've changed the default behaviour here, since apparently this confused users. Not so sure about that, cause even with having to press the button I still managed to accidentally change the exposure compensation so many times, and now it will probably happen even more often. I can still change it to the old behaviour...

Actually - having to press the exposure dial to get exposure compensation was a bug introduced during the beta program . . . . .. which was then fixed with 2.1.1 just before release - so everyone is right!

Hi Jono,

I'm still running firmware 1.6.1, and my M11 has so far proved reliable, other than the occasional wildly overexposed frame, when shooting on aperture priority. I rather like the press to set aspect of the exposure dial. Doesn't removing that feature make it easier to inadvertently change it, or am I missing something obvious?

Also, does anyone know if the occasional overexposed frame on auto feature has been fixed?

Yes, it should be fixed. I was also in the beta phase and had no more overexposures in several thousand photos. Before that, it happened every 200 to 300 photos.

You can still set the camera so that exposure compensation only works after pressing the thumbwheel. You can do this by using the thumbwheel as an FN button (after long pressing it and selecting the exposure compensation).

Updated M11-P from 2.0.2.

 

I used the app. It was going smoothly until the prompt to restart came up. Switched the camera off then on but the screen stayed on. Did it twice or thrice until I somehow suceeded. Fw displayed 2.1.1. I then had trouble connecting to the app and thought popping the battery out may help. It did. I also had to forget the camera and reconnect. 

I stopped having issues with 2.0.2 after I decided to factory reset and just don't bother with the other features than the CC. I just hope this one is better. Am observing the app connectivity for now.

Dont know what you are talking about, the exposure compensation can be charged by turning the wheel without pressing it, and I am still on firmware 1.6.2

Unless you assign a function to the wheel, which I did for manual ISO, it's been like that since day one.

you so called leica employee is wrong. The default behavior after factory reset is that the turning the wheel changes the exposure compensation.

Just a snap to check color rendition under firmware 2.1.1 with M11 and Matrix color profiles. The M11 profile shows the same lack of magenta cast and slightly more saturated reds as under firmware 2.0.2 so no change to my "new" eyes after cataract surgery apparently  (M11, Macro-Elmar 90/4 @ f/5.6, auto WB, DNG converted with Iridient Developer).

it took them 2 years to fix the standard functionality of the camera... perhaps in 3 they will fix the magenta cast

Magenta cast does not appear in every photo. I guess it depends on the lighting somehow. But it appears outdoors in daylight in the shade quite often. I am talking only about developing in Lightroom. Considering that this is by far the most popular RAW format developer, this is strange.

The only times i've got some magenta cast was with Adobe software but i don't use them normally. What i see out of my raw converters (Silkypix, Iridient Developer) is a bit of red over saturation to which i may prefer generic colors on some images (red flower below) but i may prefer also Leica colors on others (yellow flower below). All in all, i'm glad if Leica did not change anything to 2.0.2 colors that are easy to tweak in PP but it is a subjective matter obviously. YMMV.

I just updated my M11M and M11P. However, I am a little pessimistic about this being only a firmware problem. My M11M was completely bricked last month, and it just came back from Leica after a repair that switched out the PCB board.
