I have been lurking on this thread ever since I received my M11P last winter.  Firmware upgrade done.   No freezes yet for me, but two days ago my M10R had its first freeze.  It simply would not fire.  I briefly took the battery out, part way and re-inserted it, returning the camera to function.

My thoughts as an old guy.  This is like when you haven’t loaded your film right in a film M-Leica.  You realize that wind-on feels strange, and the leader is not engaged.  You mutter whatever profanities to yourself, and reload the camera ASAP.  Gremlins everywhere these days.

Hello, today I took my camera for a Sunday morning walk…and it froze at second picture.

It was unblocked after taking out the battery and wait maybe half minute.

I now suspect it is something to do with the sleep/wake-up or shutdown/startup process.

In any case the last 3 times I took my M11P camera to walk it froze.

My camera is totally new and I have done less than 100 pictures.

What can I say ? I regret my M10, I’m sad and angry on the people that messed this rollout.

I hope heads will roll at Leica responsible team, or the external subcontractor to be sunk by penalties.

I have reset the camera to factory settings and reformat card and internal memory…what else can I do ?

What I do not understand is how some people make hundreds of pictures without issues and I have them each time ??

Sorry for this post…

Update: After sending my camera to Leica it appears that the freezing issues are linked to an hardware issue. In addition of the freezing issues it showed from time to time zero battery load with full charged ones. This was the reason my camera was experiencing so many more incidents that the other ones related to a software issue.

更新:将我的相机送往 Leica 后,似乎冻结问题与硬件问题有关。除了冻结问题之外,它还不时显示电池充满电后电量为零。这就是我的相机出现如此多故障的原因,而其他故障与软件问题有关。

it is a wierd problem, so Leica is still repairing your camera or the retailer gave you a new one?

I got a M11P 9/5 and just did the update.  The only weird thing I have had before and after the update is that it will say the battery is dead when it is full charge.  I have ignored both times it happened and it will then go on as normal after a shot or just piddling with the menu or anything really.  I don't remember what I did each time but I am sure it wasn't the same thing and I didn't turn it off and on.

Hello hiddd, nothing weird, it is simply an hardware issue like it can happen with any electronic device. It is the first time it happens to me in 16 years of Leica purchases.

I only recently send the camera for repair as previously I was wrongly assuming that the issues were linked to the firmware. Only when it became obvious that the hardware had an issue I send the camera for repair.

The camera is been repaired under guarantee also all will soon be fine 😊 On my side all is solved.

Hi ALScott, in my case the false empty battery message usually disappeared with a OFF/ON but sometimes it was accompanied with freezes. These freezes could be or not related to the battery apparent bug…I cannot tell. Not very helpful I think, sorry.

Most cameras work fine anyway. Mine is that good example. I cannot reproduce any freeze. And within the last 32 months I had max 5 freezes. I would not know about the problem if I wouldn't have read here. And I believe that the majority of the cameras behaves like mine. Then we can see in this freeze thread that there is no activity anymore which is a very good sign. The theeme is quasi dead. I hope that I am right. But its what I can see here recently.

And just by the way: My Canon R5 had a freeze as well but nobody ever writes about Canon freezes. But again: The theeme died down. I hope that it stays like that. And I know that more updates are in the pipeline. Leica is doing a great effort here. And the problem was complex.

I wonder how many "freezes" are due to taking a photo with the lens cap on and then waiting for Long Exposure Noise Reduction to complete? I know I was caught with that a couple of times while getting to grips with the camera.

I've had no issues with my relatively new M11-P.

. . . and its even worse. On top you get a fully black image that you have to report here immediately.

Sorry, I do not want to make a fool of those users who have real problems 😇

Both my M11-P and M11-M continue to experience freezes after the latest firmware. Either shutter actuates but then nothing happens or shutter does not actuate at all. Sometimes just black screen. Taking out the battery and putting it back in solves the problem for a while. Some pictures got corrupted. Also the leica fotos app keeps disconnecting while transfering photos. This happens quite a lot. I hope they fix both issues soon because otherwise both cameras are fantastic.

I solved it in two ways - I don't use a card (only internal memory) and I don't use Focus (it's turned off in the settings). When using them, there are sometimes random freezes - once every 1000 shots or once a month.

Strange that you have still freezes. Did you update firmware to 2.5.1?

I use FOCUS only for remote shooting. I have not had a problem without a memory card for a long time - about 8 months, although I take about 1000 pictures a month. I have not updated to the latest firmware, the camera takes pictures and let it be so.

I had one freeze on 2.5.1. It happened when quickly turning on after turning off the camera.
