I have to say that from my experience the latest fw is worse than the previous version (2.0.2). With the latest version my camera started to freeze in a way that it didn't before and especially the frequency is significantly more frequent. Until now I was quite happy with my M11-P, but since the last upgrade my enjoyment of this camera has faded.

It is a bit of a mystery. My M11-P is currently behaving excellently with the latest firmware. I did not had any freezes apart from one with a very old firmware. After the recent factory reset and profile deletion I did not get any other "File unreadable" warnings. So far I am feeling positive, just knocking on wood.

I have been waiting to comment as a relatively new "M" user. I have a M11(silver) purchased in August 2022 from a Leica store. I use all Leica coded lenses. I have experienced an occasional freeze since owning the camera, which really hasn't been a major issue as the sequence of freezes has been rare. Since the resent update, I have been shooting a lot and no freezes so far. My camera is working as it should. I use a SanDisk 64 GB 300MB/s Extreme Pro card. Format both the card and the internal storage in the camera after each download.

I might add that I love this camera and lenses! Thank you, Leica.

The good old faulty hardware theory resurfaces at each firmware update and curiously enough early M11's like mine go on working flawlessly. Would be a novelty if freezes come from plugging cameras into mains but it sounds too funny to be true.

How many early M11's do you possess to make such a statement? I got mine on the first day of presentation from a Leica shop in Germany and since FW 2.0.2 and now 2.1.1 it suffered from various freezes, all documented to Leica. Right now on a trip in Portugal 3 "hard freezes" (having shot 2,300 photos during 2 weeks' time). I also got one of the first M11-P sold in Germany by the way, same story...

One only and I feel sorry for your experience but fact is my M11 works as intended, otherwise i would not keep it. I got a couple of freezes before firmware 1.6.1 but since then, no problem at all. I would be glad to help you if i could but the only advice i can give is to return the camera if it's still under warranty.

I am unsure.

I had an instance yesterday when I was trying a new cable to see if it worked to charge the camera, as I am going away.

It was fine.

I removed it and the camera was a brick. Would not turn on at all. I popped the battery and replaced it. Same. No dice. Popped it again and replaced. All back to normal again.

It never did that before the FW but no idea what caused it so cannot really say if it is related.

Did you, by any chance, remove it with the camera powered on?

Some third party cables have issues.

2.1.1 - more than 1000 frames, not a single freeze. After struggling with the previous firmware and being seriously disappointed with the Leica, I'm pleasantly surprised. I really hope that the firmware will be polished to a state that will satisfy everyone.

Honestly I’m not sure. The cable did charge the camera and works fine with every other device (iPhone etc) I use it with.

The problem is that there’s no Leica USBC to USBC cable…..

I can't reply because I'll get in trouble. We know what I like to do.

There is. USB-C 3.0. It came new with the SL3. You can buy it separately.

A side comment: I'm the first to acknowledge that the M11 firmware isn't quite where it should be - I had one freeze not long after installing 2.1.1 and shared the details with Leica and, upon request, earlier in this thread- but honestly not sure if I believe some of the other comments here and in other threads about supposed persistent issues. I'm not calling anyone specific out for trolling, but I suspect some of the comments are bogus.

It could be, but I do believe the issue is a hardware one, and they have been trying to mitigate it with software. That is the reason some people have no issues (I had very few before the update and it seems that I have none after), and some continue to have issues.

Could be a user issue too. Trying to make a piece of hardware something it is not.

Example?

I would consider myself a knowledgeable user. I have been using Leica cameras for at least eight years (M240, M10, and now M11) and rarely had any issues with my previous Ms. I wish I could say the same about the M11, although with the latest firmware, the camera—mine at least—seems to be stable as a rock.
