Possibly , but comparing the incomparable. Nothing beats the reliability of a disposable camera...

As a new camera it is definitely underwhelming. Basically the same camera as the 7 with the UI of the rest of Leicas cameras and a few cosmetic tweaks.

What do you think of the 4mp more of the DL8 (21mp) vs the DL7 (17mp)?

Just curious--where did you get those pixel comparisons? I hadn't seen that info.

Several years back it was said that to see a difference in image quality, one needed to double the pixel count. If that's still the thought, you wouldn't see a difference with just a 24% improvement.

Agree.... Consistently I have produced excellent images with a "D-Lux 7"...

Both DL7 and DL8 have the same resolution.

Well, it would do away with my main complaint of the LX100 that it is possible to press inadvertently one of the back side buttons by holding the camera. Ideally, they would have adressed the second point, the rather weak display used in the LX100s viewfinder.

Apart from the different sensor, the S9 does not really compare due to the lack of a viewfinder.

Quite a significant price increase, though, for a slight upgrade of the previous model.

The viewfinder and the rear LCD have been updated in the 8.

Hear me out. The MFT benefit is that it is small. I actually think Leica could really hit the X100V type of customer and me as well if they had this body with the new MFT sensor from the panny g9ii and a fixed 35mm instead of these zooms that suck dust, Make it weather sealed, a great EVF, and fast connectivity like the SL3. It would be a true “baby Q”! it would be smaller and more portable than an X100V. That camera would sell like gangbusters.

I’d love that camera as an everyday companion! I really hope this Dlux8 sells well so they have the desire to keep investing in small cameras!

I would be putting my $$ down for this immediately.  Its all I want as an everyday camera.

I owned the DLux 7, but finally sold it because I couldn´t stomach the UI.  Buttons, buttons everywhere, most of them with really stupid functions.  All the time, when picking it up for a quick shot, something was changed, and that shot missed.  IQ was good enough, not my M9, but sufficient.  If the DLux 8 is better in that UI respect (and the focus point can be fixed to the center, where it should be!), it would be a significant improvement.  So, initially I´m not underwhelmed...

Let´s see what happens, when I can actually handle a DLux 8 in the flesh at my faithful Leica center...  Right now I use a Ricoh GR IIIx as my carry-everywhere camera, and it would have to be good indeed to oust that one...

78 yr. old retired geography college prof. here - have a DLUX-6.  I see a lot of folks dissing the DLUX 8 - but it might serve my purposes.  Basically - I-phone 15 pro or DLUX 8 (they're about the same price) for a backpack/overland trip to the El Peten of Guatemala for photography of Mayan ruins.  I'm a little long in the tooth to be hauling my Nikon gear, and wanted something for the inside pocket of a denim vest.

Yeah, I could get into Nikon Mirrorless DX, but it is old tech.(5 or 6 yrs.)  also by the standards of today.  I'm interested in your comments.  Thanks.  Gene.

I would never buy a camera on somebody’s thoughts etc.. I’ve ordered my ‘8’ and I’m quite happy with its specs.. Everything on the market can be improved one way or another..  Dreamers and wishers can do what they do! Meanwhile I’ll be taking pictures with a lovely D-Lux8… I’m 82 years of age and in my 20’s did ‘street’ in London.. 🍻

I'd go for the D-Lux (7 or 8), I have the Typ109, 2 gen older but the same sort of thing but I would also take the Phone Camera as backup. The only real downside of the D-Lux is the lack of weather sealing which would be solved with the Phone. Hope you enjoy your trip. 👍

What's the point of a forum if not to hear other people's thoughts and opinions?
