It's fairly common for shippers to refuse to handle international sales of batteries (for / from 'Dealerships' & 'Members of the Public') as there is a risk of explosion. The risk might be small but it is still too great a risk for them to even consider taking.

Manufacturers, it seems, must have different means to get their items distributed around the planet.

And you won't, ever. Leica is a luxury brand now, so not a lot of tears spilt over people buying expensive cameras and then also having to spend a few more $ on a battery. But what is truly concerning

I just went through 11 pages of results for BP-SCL5, and nothing in stock, or won't ship internationally due to it being a lithium ion battery - even if they actually have in stock - I think some retail software doesn't always update as it should.  I've found a couple of used ones (more expensive than a new) so will go for one of those for now, with fingers crossed Leica will do the right thing and make more. Guess I should have stocked up years ago when they were 'only' $150. 

(note, one can't just glance at Google results without clicking through to the actual store - sometimes the Google list will say in stock, but when going to the store it will then say backordered or some such thing).

That's good to know if you're in the UK. Expensive plane ticket for a battery if not (but always a lovely place to visit). But they're prohibited from mailing overseas, same with Leica store Hong Kong, which also says in stock. There's currently  a used one on auction on eBay from Popflash in the US, with 39 watchers. The last used one from him sold at auction for $420, and they regularly go for $300 and up on eBay. What is Leica's problem???

Yeah, now that I look specifically EU, it doesn't seem to be a problem finding them, new or used at reasonable price. Nobody will ship them is all. My wife and kids will be in Dusseldorf over the holidays, so I guess I know what I'll be getting for Xmas (if still in stock - may have her pre-order and deliver to her sister's).

It's just the individual mailing of batteries that is the issue. Shipping them bulk is another matter. But it sure is confusing/frustrating why they seem to be (somewhat) available in the EU but nowhere else.

FWIW, I called a small US dealer today that I’ve occasionally used, and they just got an email from Leica that 2 M10 batteries are on the way. Timing not specified, but one will go to me and the other is spoken for.  

If a small dealer has some on the way, I can only imagine that the larger dealers will as well, albeit possibly with customer waiting lists.

I'll fistfight you for them (beware, even at 60 years old, I have an advanced brown belt in karate)! 😉😂

Nah, I'm good. Used one from KEH on the way, (at an outrageous price imo) and ordering one that's in Dusseldorf at the Calumet store, and I'll send a spare charger with my wife so she can test it charges before bringing it back to the US just in case it's DOA from sitting on the shelf.

Yeah, you're probably right. need to call some mom and pops. That's actually how I was one of the first to get an M10 - a tip on a small store in New Jersey that had one when everyone else was waiting listed.

I’m not an early adopter, but there have been waiting lists for many Leica items a year or more after product introduction, typically with many forum members on multiple lists and expressing frustration here. I’ve always gotten what I wanted in a day or two in the midst of these complaints, never on a waiting list, and no advance tips. Just takes some calls, and a bit of resourcefulness.

How far or long will a battery considered bad? I have a spare battery which i bought when early M10 was having stuck iso.. the other was when the safari launched, sure they both still hold pretty okay.. just wondering.. so i have 3 for my M10r and use them subsequently 

i never let them go down lower than 30% or so

I haven’t had to buy an M10 battery since December, 2023 so I have no personal experience other than running some quick google queries and checking the BH app. However, if it is so easy to get replacement batteries for the M10, then why is this thread so long?

One of two things is possible: Either  battery shortage is a real problem that has resulted in forum members discussing it for five pages (as of this writing) and the one person who bought a battery in June, 2024 was very fortunate OR most of the people on this thread are discussing a non-issue. 

Given that my personal internet queries have shown zero availability, I’m going with the battery shortage being real, at least since the inception of this thread in March, 2024, about six months ago.
