Has anyone chrome stripped and black painted the regular version of the steel rim reissue? [ ...] I still have no idea if it's fully brass on the outside. For 9000 euro it better brass and focus down to 0.7m!

Yes I know of one person who did it, it is fully brass on the outside. He had finished to match an original M3 Black Paint's paint and brassing. It looked great.

I don't think it will focus down to 70 cm...

I am still awaiting an opportunity to buy a Black Paint M10-R, ....

And I am tempted to take the furnitures off my black paint M10R and replace the black chrome furniture of an M10-P ... 😉

I prefer the colors out of the M10-P and mostly the buffer size is the same as the M10-R, I get more photos out of an M10-P before filling the buffer

I almost sold my m10-r black paint here, the buyer retracted at last, and I am glad he did. I don't want to sell it anymore. I just want a black paint lens to go with it. Damn you Leica! Let me rub my LLL black paint lenses for a while to sooth my nerve.

I will be keeping my original-version, Black-Chromed M10. Loyalty is something. Selling it has never crossed my mind. My M10, and my Summilux-M 50mm ASPH, bought together in April 2018, became the instruments that I used to re-learn how to love photographing people, after spending seven years mostly photographing traumatized assault victims, mostly with a 100mm macro lens, to get the most scientific detail, in the final phase of my 34-year career as a public servant.

Yes, there is something special about black paint on brass. I am glad that you kept your M10-R. 🙂

My dream setup:

  • M10-R Black Paint
  • 50mm Summilux pre-ASPH E46 Black Paint
  • 35mm Summilux Steel Rim re-issue Black Paint

… but unfortunately just a dream … 🙄

Swap the M10-R for a pair of black paint MPs each with matching Leicavits, one body x0.85 the other x0.72.

I'd like to see one stripped to bare metal and clear-coated.

summilux 50mm/f1.4 ASPH has a black chrome version, with red markings, some sort of reminiscent feeling. They limited it to 500, but it didn't fly well. It's even priced lower than regular 'Lux. So they learned lesson, no chrome, just paint.

I actually think Leica will sell better with bare brass. :D

I once experimented on the baseplate of my M10-R black paint with my wife's nail polish remover.

I applied a tiny amount on the corner of the plate, waited for about 10 minutes before rubbing it. But the paint didn't budge, it held strong. So it has to be time, or we need sandpaper, which I don't want to do.

I've had it. Lovely lens and I loved the scalloped focus ring! But now I'm more into the Mandler/pre-ASPH era.

Not remove the paint, but swap top plates and furniture of my M10-R black paint with one of my M10-P black chrome camera. In two years of heavy use there is little brassing on the M10-R black paint. Mostly on the on off switch and on the iso dial and the shutter dial

I would like to point out that the new steel reem black version limited to 200 pieces is made in black anodized finish and not black paint. It makes me think it's not brass

So like the original right?

I think I recall you saying that in your steel rim reissue video so I suspect I know who you are talking about. I'll DM him on IG and see if he still has any photos of his painted reissue SR. I'm tossing around the idea of seeing if Kanto can repaint my reissues (steel rim & summaron 28) to match my MP, but I want to make sure they will brass. So thanks for confirming about the reissue SR!

I agree with you on the M10-P files. I prefer my M10-D over the M10-R, but the M10-R is a close second for me. I just can't ever go back to the M11. Good luck with your swap! A BP M10-P sounds amazing.

You know who it is :) DM me your Instagram.

I'd love an M10-D black paint, it is my favourite M10 unfortunately the top and bottom plate of the M10-R don't match my M10-D ... that would be a match made in heaven with a black paint Steel Rim ;)

Is this for real???

Even it's real it wouldn't have legal bindings. I signed contract, I sell the lens right after walking out of the door. What Leica can do, sue me? Highly unlikely. Ban me from buying any more lenses? not practically enforceable.

Yes it is, in some markets difficult to enforce but then your relationship is over for priority purchase plus that market may be penalise for future limited editions. It is strangely weird and might change in the future, because some collectors are extremely unhappy about it.
