Pierre68 Posted March 6, 2024 Share #1 Posted March 6, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) This morning I had the chance to test the SL3 at the photo store in Lausanne Switzerland. The body is really well dimensioned (less width and a fatter grip). It felt real compact. The additional wheel on the left hand side is quite handy. I also loved the tilting screen which felt really solid. The autofocus was definitely faster with all the lenses I tested it with (including the slow Summilux-SL. 50mm). Now I need to choose what I am going to sell to fund this purchase...

Eclectic Man Posted March 6, 2024 Share #3 Posted March 6, 2024 It may well have 'hit the stores' today, but it has not hit the UK web site: https://leica-camera.com/en-GB yet.

According to the leaked images, the bodies look very different. PDAF and the tilting screen were already in Q3.

LocalHero1953 Posted March 6, 2024 Share #10 Posted March 6, 2024 I recall another member here with a friend at a Leica dealer in France who gave him advance info and sights. It didn't end well, IIRC🧑🚒🧨🚫!

Carrot Posted March 6, 2024 Share #12 Posted March 6, 2024 I've been a Leica user for a couple of years, currently got Q3 and SL2-S with SL APOs and M lenses. Still waiting to see the full spec for the SL3 confirmed before I go for it, particularly insofar as using M lenses with it is concerned (e.g. automatic magnification when start focusing). All that aside, can longer-term Leica users hazard a guess on how long the SL2 and SL2-S might stay in production, based on previous experience ... e.g. how long did the SL continue being manufactured after the SL2 was launched? Stuart Richardson Posted March 6, 2024 Share #13 Posted March 6, 2024 I am in London today and went to Mayfair yesterday. They would not even confirm there was an event...I had hoped I might attend since I am in town and rarely in the same place as a Leica store whenever these launches happen. Was a bit nonplussed. I mean really, who the f cares? Everyone who wants to know knows it is coming. It is not like it is a state secret. 3

I think they are likely already out of production for several months. They are selling the existing bodies and have likely already been making SL3's for awhile. It is unlikely to automatically magnify the focus with M lenses. That is achieved via the cam roller on the M cameras, it is not something that the SL has, so the camera itself has no way of knowing when the camera is being focused. I suppose if they could develop a contrast based algorithm (basically using the change in contrast in the image as an indicator that the lens was being focused), they might be able to do it, but they do not seem to have tried to do that yet. You cannot be mad at them for not wanting to get on Leica's bad side by leaking information before the launch day. Bad Romandes, bad Romandes! ;-). P.S.: Romande or Suisse Romande is a common name for the French-speaking Swiss (Lausanne), who are known to be less strident about rules than the German-speaking Swiss. P.P.S: I love Swiss Romandes :). 1
Stuart Richardson Posted March 6, 2024 Share #17 Posted March 6, 2024 Oh, I wasn't mad at them, nor did I ask them to reveal anything about the launch...even that it was an SL3...but they would not even confirm there was one, which I found needlessly tight lipped seeing as invitations have gone out around the world.

jaapv Posted March 6, 2024 Share #20 Posted March 6, 2024 Barnack’s don’t have a flip out handle; they are pull-up. 🤩 1
