The camera froze today when I tried to take a photo with the continues high speed setting (internal  memory used) immediately after turning on the camera. Apparently, the real time to turn on the camera before the first shot should be considered equal to 5 seconds to allow internal processes to initialize.
I often turn off the camera after shooting a scene and turn it on immediately before a new scene to save battery (this is my habit with any camera). It seems that M11 does not tolerate such treatment

The camera froze again after shooting at continues high, the entire series of files consisting of 3 frames was lost. The shooting was done using the built-in memory; the camera was turned on for more than 1 minute. The camera froze as soon as I pressed the Play button to see the result.

P.S. The camera did not freeze immediately after turning it on, I managed to take 3-4 successful series of frames

Did you press Play very shortly after taking the shots? I seem to recall many people here having problems when pressing Play too soon. The camera needs to have a moment to calm down after taking one shot, let alone a continuous burst. I try to resist the temptation to look for about 10s afterwards but I can see how that might not always be possible if the opportunity is fleeting.

Not sure what this is, but it is DNG from M11 2.0.2 firmware to ProGrade 250  card

I have updated firmware and the camera m11 freezes more than it ever did. So much so that I had thoughts of selling it, frustrating for such a high priced piece of equipment. But if I pop the battery out and reset it takes care of the problem. However took it to Chinatown to shoot the parade and it froze probably 8-10 times. Super annoying. Interestingly have the m11 monochrom and it doesn’t seem to happen as much.

  1. When using third party or non-6 bit coded lenses.
  2. When shooting single-shot at 60MP/L-DNG + L-JPG if I shoot over 3 in a row. Doesn't seem to happen if I use 36MP/M-DNG or 18MP/S-DNG only.
  3. When set to sleep.
  4. When set to shutter closing when changing lenses.
  5. When FOTOS is set on all the time.

These are my top 5 instances that I can sort of pinpoint. The M11-P also freezes up at start-up sometimes for no reason and I just pop the battery out and back in quickly and it resets.

Completely no access to menus and red light on back near control wheel has started recently. Remedied by the hard reset of taking the battery out and putting it back in, but having to do this multiple times per night.

I have stopped having issues of corrupt DNG since 2.0.2, so a faster 300/mbps SanDisk SD card likely helped that. I also do not take my images directly from the card into LR - I transfer them to an SSD first then import.

Shutter timing is bizarre, and seems to be the source of much of this headache, so I have turned off much of the functions. I also keep the camera "on" until I turn it off, no sleep state. Sometimes waking from sleep has caused issues. Of course, if I forget to turn the camera off I have zero battery in about 45min to an hour.

I've gotten used to it, and it's not "horrible" as it was, but still annoying.

Hope this helps.

I often experience freezing or more like non-operation when I first start up the camera, I have to switch off, take out the battery and reinsert it then the red light stays on for a while before I can switch back on and it then works ok.

Yes, this.

But only recently and only with a non-6bit coded lens.

I have set profiles, maybe its taking a moment to read?

I have M11 with 50mm noctilux lens. Firmware 2.0.2. Storage set to internal first, then sd card (Angelbird 128 GB AV PRO SD MK2 V90 (SDXC UHS-II)).

I have very frequent freezes that can only be escaped by ejecting battery and reinserting it. Typically happen when reviewing an image after shooting. Very frequent to the point camera is pretty much unusable.

M11 with Lexar Professional 2000x 64 GB, SDXC UHS-II, formatted with "sd card formatter", both "DNG and JPEG" saved to "internal memory and SD card" simultaneously

- I enabled low speed shooting

- while taking a series of shots, I got the "ever lasting dreaded orange dot" with the black screen, camera was frozen. I only figured out that a minute later, waited 5 minutes but the camera was still dead. patience did not pay...

- after removing the battery and reinserting it the hard way, I tried to figure out how many photos were lost

- but while in playback mode, one of the photo was the "all white" photo that I got only once with the first firmware 1.6 or something like that. I think the camera was stuck while trying to record this image so it became corrupt. a theory, only a theory

- in playback mode, each time I reach this while frame photo, the camera freezes and I must remove and reinsert the battery...

- back home I inserted the sd card and downloaded all photos including the (beautiful) white frame that you can see below. abstract, in-camera M11 AI art, inspired by the snow covered landscape where I was shooting.

I rarely use the continuous shooting mode but it appears to be way less stable than the single frame mode. in single frame mode I get a similar lock (without the white frame) "only" once every 100 shots. Obviously with no sd card, I never get freezes or lock ups.

NB: my sandisk extreme pro 64 v90 shows the same stability issues, it does not do any better than the lexar.

Hopefully firmware v7.0.7 will bring us the final 1000th fix that should resolve all of those issues once and for all! fingers crossed :)

Hello there,

I’m using an M11 with FW 2.0.2 installed. I use the camera everyday. Before 2.0.2, I experienced lockups frequently. After 2.0.2, the lockups are rare, but still occur occasionally. It happens when I’m working very quickly, shooting bursts of five or so images. After third or fourth burst, the camera will hang.

(M11 2.02)

Hi there, generally all good and issues are VERY sporadic IF I do not use  LV and take single shots, using all manual, like in the 80s.

BUT IF I start using LV and start using the camera more heavily with fast sequence, then odd things can happen with a certain frequency.  To note, I get these issues with all resolutions from 18 up to 60. Raw only. And live view. I am using a video rated Angelbird 64GB card which was very good/fast a year or so ago. here is winter and rather cold so not a hot summer. battery always full. typically 28mm with code. Noise protection off. Save pictures only on card. CCT set to specific kelvin. ISO manual, shutter manual, center weighted meter, no focus assist on auto but by pressing button, red halo to show focus, no other visual elements on the display (for live view).

Issues include, in order of frequency.

I have added an indication of frequency, but this assumes that all shots are taken with LV and the above settings.

*camera stuck, needing reboot, black live view, unresponsive (maybe 1 every 200 shots or so). Happened several time, if using LV and under a certain pressure I am sure I can reproduce.

*lost frames, unreadable ones. oddly in some cases these may be ok in capture one, but in camera are shown in black with only the name  (maybe 1 every 500 shots or so) Happened several time, if using LV and under a certain pressure I am sure I can reproduce.

*corrupted frames similar to what @Photoworks shows above, with weird pink/white/black lines of noise (maybe 1 every 10,000 shots or so) happened only twice.

*once I had the spinning icon and the red rectangle on the screen, reboot and dealt with it. (maybe 1 every 20,000 shots or so)

here a sample of a corrupted frame from a recent evening. it happened once before, when camera was new and service suggested to keep it and in case think about it at a later time. never had the issue since, until few days ago. twice in total.

PS I have read many of the above post and can recognise some of the issues, for example the switch on/off to fast with camera crash, same here. Provided a battery in/out resolves I am not bothered by these things.  But the crashes when shooting are a little more of an issue.

M11 owner since launch day. No problems with previous firmware (v1.6.x). Latest firmware has introduced a freeze situation which occurs often. This happens when using Sony Tough 300MB/s cards or even when using the internal storage.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Turn camera on
  2. Take picture
  3. Press play to review picture
  4. Press delete
  5. Click trash can

The camera will often freeze at this point requiring the battery to be removed. The image which was stuck on the screen (with the red light on) will in fact be deleted.

got a freeze with a 128gb sandisk uhsII, involved using live view turning on and off, ended up with spinning wheel on lcd, with red outline.  I pulled the battery and put back, gave up on the 128 as it seems to freeze more often with it, now using 64gb sandisk uhsII 300, so far ok.

I have so many of the episodes depicted above with the spinning wheel in the LCD that I began a thread on this some weeks ago. Quick facts:

1. While my M11 has previously had the occasional freeze, easily remedied by ejecting and reinserting the battery, ever since I downloaded the latest firmware to BOTH my M11 and M11 Monochrom, I have had persistent issues.

2. These are not simple, easily remedied freezes. These typically include a message about the failure of my SD card and/or the spinning circle in the LCD. The camera will not turn off. The remedy here is to remove and reinsert the battery, but the real problem is that at this point, I have lost several of the most recent images taken and stored on my SD card.

3. Yes, it does not seem to happen if I store images to the internal drive first. But that's not my preference. My preference is to store DNGs first on my SD card and save the internal drive for use when a card is full or I've forgotten to reinsert it.

4. The lenses used are all 6-bit coded: 35 APO, 2023 50 Summilux, 2023 28 Summicron.

5. I recently spent time in Mexico with my two Ms, and while the Monochrom did not have issues, the M11 did.

6. I can't stress this enough: these problems did not begin until I downloaded the most recent firmware for both cameras.

7. I was using fast SanDisk 128gb cards, but switched to Lexar, just in case it was a SanDisk issue. Same problem with Lexar 128 cards.

Thank you for allowing us to do this survey, and I pray Leica reads this and does something about the most annoying problem Ive had with my Ms since the IR filter debacle in 2006.

Bought my M11 in Oct. 2022. Freezing was and is still unpredictable. Froze when first used it and still freezes even after the 2.0.2 update. Switched to a Lexar 1667x 128gb but still get a rare freeze. Removing the battery usually brings it back to usable. I have not noticed if certain lenses have any effect.
