As a counterexample, the owner of a prominent UK Nikon dealer with an excellent reputation is, I believe, in the same club as Thorsten. I would judge a shop by the standard of service it provides (which has always been good there) rather than by what the staff do after work.

Nothing positive can come out of doing business with a scientologist, ever.  Luigi is great.

I'm sure there are many people who would say the same about (insert religious preference).

If someone chooses to follow a particular religion that's entirely their own choice and really shouldn't matter to anyone else. I'm not religious - I have one I was born into but I'm not a follower.

I do however object to poor customer service from any organisation and also object to anything that in any way could be seen to support the 'exploitation' of wild animals, especially endangered species.

Maybe it's a little hypocritial when I eat meat and wear leather shoes, but I'm OK with the farming of animals for food (and by products).

I will never buy any product from Thorsten's site.  I ordered a metal hood and never got contacted for some time even when I fried to contact them..  When I tried to get $ back via PP, they said it was too late.  Lesson learned.

I had contact with good old Luigi yesterday and my strap (black, lined with red suede) will be here Monday.....a far better buying experience!

Yes, the Overgaard strap is overpriced, but the leather used is really soft and beautiful. Arte di Mano also uses some of these extremely nice leathers. Could not find one with square lugs though and wanted to have the strap soon.

And there is a difference between using leather - most of us do - and shooting the few elephants we still have, I think. Perhaps it is in the "Von" (i.e. old Danish nobility) or simply a snobbish poser......

Hello,

I bought a Magnum strap from Overgaard for my SL2 in December. The 125cm version, as that size was, contrary to the 145cm, designated as "in stock" on the site.

I saw that the straps were being sent from either the US or Europe, so send him/them a mail that I would prefer Europe (As I live in Europe and do not want to incur unnecessary import duties for an Italian strap....). No reply. A reminder. And again, no reply. Than I saw that the strap was no longer in stock, but was no labelled as on back-order. So I contacted him again, asking for the delivery time as well. And guess what, no reply.....

So I searched on this wonderful site, noting that various people had similar experiences with him. So I decided to escalate the matter in Paypal, trying to force him for a reaction. However, one month later and various reminders via Paypal also did not lead to any reaction, so Paypal simply decided to pay back my money. This was actually not what I wanted, as I want this strap and at least learn how long it will take (before I decide to buy something else).

As I liked his site, I subscribed to it early January. And guess what, I am since two weeks getting old kinds of "personal" mails asking me to buy this or that from him.

I sent him a return mail, actually a number of times ;), indicating that I would find it more appropriate for him to take care of existing customers rather than only trying to find new ones. And guess what? No reply......

So, all in all, I am now slightly hesitant what to do. I really like this strap, but that Overgaard person appears to me as somebody who is very happy with himself, traveling the world giving courses everywhere, but who does not see taking care of his on-line customers as a big priority. No way to run a business, if you ask me.

Anybody any idea how you can contact this guy and any advice what to do? I want this strap, but I am not going to wait for ages. Than I will go for an alternative.

I guess for this price you can go to a shoemaker and he will find the leather and can do this in a week.
cheers peter

you paid and you did not get the product?
They did not deliver and they did not return the money either?

@JJJS I will endorse @Jean-Michel's recommendation of the SL strap made by Harry Benz:   https://www.harrybenz.com/shop/the-brogue-sl

Harry offers outstanding craftsmanship, excellent straps that are priced well within reason and first rate client service.  Sometimes he is backed up with orders, but his work is worth a bit of a wait.  And he will actually communicate with his clients.

I use the Peak Design Leash for my SL2. Easily adjustable length, comfortable, simple to detach, and pliable.  And with the strap connected to an anchor on one lug and with the other end to the small provided base plate, the camera and SL zoom hangs comfortably down at the hip or back rather than sticking out (with strap over shoulder or cross body). One could also choose one of the wider PD Slide straps.

I didn’t get along with the far more expensive Harry Benz SL strap.

Jeff

I fully agree. I also use Peak design strap with anchors side & bottom since some weeks, pleasantly surprised how comfortable. Even with heavy glass.

I'm also a fan of the Peak Design concept, particularly because it allows me to easily interchange straps with my three cameras. That said, I have a preference for leather over the materials used by Peak Design. I discovered Clever Supply, a manufacturer that produces straps compatible with the PD anchors. I've ordered a few and am extremely pleased with them. They're willing to customize the length if you reach out directly.

P.S. I'm not associated with this company in any way; I'm just a satisfied customer.

The ability to quickly change lengths (e.g., for different carrying methods, different clothing, etc) is one of the key benefits of the PD system for me.  The alternative not so “clever” for my needs, but to each his own.

  • 4 weeks later...

I purchased a lens shade late last month and had the exact same experience.

I have not heard from them since my purchase and they have not responded to any of my inquiries.

Worst online shopping experience I have ever had.

I hope there are no more victims from his site.

And Luigi is such a nice responsive guy! Purchased already 3 case/strap combos from him.

The only reason that he is responsive is his daughter, Ginevra. She has Luigi's correspondence firmly in hand.😇
