Photoworks Posted November 10, 2024 Share #301 Â Posted November 10, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) it is coming soon, so they told me, it is nothing revolutionary because the SL3 already has the same options.
Advertisement Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Hi Photoworks, Take a look here SL2S FW6.0. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
deep_blue Posted November 12, 2024 Share #302  Posted November 12, 2024 (edited) Am 10.11.2024 um 02:25 schrieb LeicaR10: Crem,  To answer your question, my 2 sources are two different Leica dealers, one US and other Australia.  I also got an email from a Leica senior program manager who wrote they were surprised at the push back from SL users as they thought the joystick feature wasn't used much by users.  He also wrote Leica would reinstate the feature at a later firmware update.  That was last December...  So, considering all the issues with firmware with the M11 and SL3 etc back then, the SL2 firmware update was put on the back burner. (One has to put out the largest fires firsts, so to say)  Whether or not the SL2 magnification feature returns in December, like many things these days, I take with a grain of salt.  I believe you can use the top half of the front button for magnification on the SL2 and SL2-S with 6.0, but the joystick clearly is a winning and much beloved feature.  Maybe next time, Leica will do a survey and ASK what features are most used and least used by photographers before making changes to important firmware.  Again, holding one's breath is an option, but this does have consequences....  r/ Mark My source is Leica customer support in Wetzlar, who told me in August that this will be included in the next update, expected for the end of November. Carrot Posted November 12, 2024 Share #303  Posted November 12, 2024 If the SL-2S joystick magnification is restored, I'm wondering which way it will go. Previously, it always went to level 2 magnification regardless of what level you last used, at least it did on mine. This is different to the way magnification worked if you assigned it to a function button (in an on/off arrangement), because each time you turned it on it went back to the last level of magnification you were using (again, that's how my SL2-S worked). My preference would be to go straight to the level you last used, but of course some people might prefer the original setup. Further still, rather than simply restoring magnification to the joystick, why don't they simply make it another function button, and let us assign any function to it?
jaapv Posted November 13, 2024 Share #304  Posted November 13, 2024 My joystick produces Back Button Focus and magnification is on the top front Fn button which suits me perfectly. 3

But on the other hand. The camera works with almost no quirks and faults. No freezing issues etc. So maybe its better not to make firmare updates that could ruin this.
deep_blue Posted December 3, 2024 Share #306 Â Posted December 3, 2024 (edited) Leica Customer Service: Zitat Unfortunately, we do not have a date yet for the planned firmware update. The magnifier function will be reintegrated with the next update, please be patient a little longer. jaapv Posted December 3, 2024 Share #308  Posted December 3, 2024 Strangely it works well on my SL2S on 6.0.0.

jaapv Posted December 4, 2024 Share #310  Posted December 4, 2024 Sorry typo. 6.0.0. I’ll correct. (And checked just now) I must have been moved in the menu with the update. However, I moved it to the wheel for ergonomic reasons, but the joystick works just fine as well.
insomnia Posted December 4, 2024 Share #311  Posted December 4, 2024 No, it doesn't. We wouldn't have 16 pages and I don't know how many mails to Leica if it would. Maybe you have a third party adapter for your M lenses or you're mistaken what we're trying to achieve
jaapv Posted December 5, 2024 Share #312  Posted December 5, 2024 Ah yes, I put magnification on wheel-press. Much more practical than the joystick so I never used it after the update. The joystick is back button focus.Ergonomically perfect.  Sorry for the confusion.
costa43 Posted December 5, 2024 Share #313 Â Posted December 5, 2024 I use a ttartisan adapter and the joystick still works to punch in, annoyingly it does not punch out when pressed again but it's still more intuitive than using another button for me as I can move the focus point around with the same joystick. My official adapter sits on the shelf.

The whole point for many of us, while manual focusing M lenses, is that using the joystick to locate your focus box/point, then depressing it in one action to magnify, reduces the number of steps and, to some, is more intuitive than a) using the button to move the focus point, then b) moving your thumb to magnify using the rear wheel.  This is not to misunderstand those who prefer to use the rear wheel, that is their preference, but the choice shouldn’t have been removed. I never updated the software to 6.0.0 and so I still have the benefit of zooming in by using the joystick (and, yes, occasionally I do use the wheel). For those who prefer to use the joystick button for the function, and who upgraded to 6.0.0 in good faith, this must be bloody annoying. We’ve been discussing it, on this thread, for a year.  Peter Karbe himself recommends the SL series for M lenses and so to remove one of the aids supporting manual focus is a cock up at best. The fact that it’s now available on the SL3 points to the probability that this was a mistake. It needs sorting. Quickly.
Luke_Miller Posted December 9, 2024 Share #315  Posted December 9, 2024 It is particularly frustrating to those who use the Joystick to initiate autofocus when using AF lenses. The muscle memory remains even when a manual focus lens is mounted. Well, you can still set it to AF-L + AE-L, not sure what the options were before. For me, this initiates auto-focus, but I don't use this. padam Posted December 11, 2024 Share #319 Â Posted December 11, 2024 Since I've been lazy enough not to set up User Profiles, might as well do after this (most likely final) firmware, even though right now, it makes absolutely no difference either. jjesp Posted December 11, 2024 Share #320 Â Posted December 11, 2024 So that little bugfix took over a year - to a bug introduced by another firmware... Leica, I am not impressed here... But anyway. If someone here are installing it - let us know if the camera still works fine in the weeks to come. I will not be beta testing again but hopefully others will.
