Q3 for wild life/street photography and travel?

For wildlife places forget it, unless you talk of standing in a field not too far from sheep. lambs, horses, cows etc. For street and hiking, a Q of any sort is a  wonderfully capable camera to have.

Do you think is better than a M-P type 240 with 35mm/50mm lens? I have not tried a Q before.

Only you can say that. It is a very personal thing. For me I think I will be happy with the Q3, up to 90mm. After that I have the VLUX-5 and I am happy with that combination.

Leica really doesn't make a wildlife camera. But for landscapes and street they would work great. If you're happy with your M, why change? I love my Q2 and for me it's better than a M, but my eyes could use the autofocus. You already have an M and if you enjoy it, unless you need the weather sealing of a Q2/Q3 I'm not sure you gain much.

The biggest advantages of a Q3 over any M when it comes to street photography is a) autofocus and b) flip screen (makes for more discreet shooting from hip).

As to hiking/scenery the principle advantage Q3 has over your set up is significantly higher resolution.

Simply put a 28mm even cropped to 75mm or 90mm will not keep you far enough away from the jaws of a perhaps hungry lion.

You don't have to run faster than the Lion. You just need to run faster than the guy next to you struggling with the heavy SL2 and Lenses!

Another big advantage of the Q3!

Yep! Sorry. I was thinking about street photography/hiking. I’m in doubt about

1. Buying a q3

2. Change the body camera for a new one

3. just buy a new lens

well, do you want a rangefinder camera with interchangeable lenses or a fixed lens camera with an EVF? Simple as that.

I used to do a lot of wildlife photography with my Sony A9ii and a1 using lenses like the 100-400 or 200-600 with a 1.4x or 2x teleconverter.  Q3 doesn't really do that under any circumstances.  I have been able to get close to a few deer while hiking, but that's about as wild as it's gotten with the Q3.

For hiking and wildlife photography, I would bring a second camera with a zoom lens (100-400mm).  The Q3 would otherwise be my camera of choice for street, travel, landscape and family photos.  I traveled for 3 weeks in Italy in 2019 with my Q2 and had no regrets.

Just what I am doing Q on loan until Q3 arrives + VLUX-5
