Philipe offered to assist with finding a venue for the meal, so we will need some idea of final numbers pretty soon. It pays to book a table(s) early when there are 20-something diners.

Thanks

Thanks Andy,

I was thinking of renewing my contact for the Gaglio restaurant: look it up; it's got outdoor, indoor, ground floor and 1st floor (which would be good for our purpose, in my mind). And yes, it would be helpful to have an idea of numbers, vegan, allergies, etc..

To be continued!

Thanks Philipe

We have another Cote d'Azure resident in the party ( Philippe @lamefrog ) who has found us a restaurant for the dinner - I will post the venue and "Group Menu" from which we will need to choose next. However, we do still need a suitable location to meet at lunchtime, so if you have ideas for that, bring them on!

As advised above, we have found a venue for the After-Challenge Dinner in Nice. Sincere thanks go to @lamefrog for helping with this.

As there will be about 30 of us, we have been asked to choose from a "Group Menu", so I am very pleased to be able to share that with the group now. The choice is only necessary for the Main Course (three options are offered, including one vegetarian), so if everyone can advise their choice I will collate and we will advise the restaurant in good time.

The restaurant is Lu Fran Calin, located in the Old Town

Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here…

Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!

The Menu is as follows. It will be €44 per person, plus a tip (I would suggest a round €50 Per person assuming the service is good).

Cash only on the night, please.

Aperitif
Mulled wine/anise/beer, 1/4 AOC Côtes de Provence wine per person and coffee included .

Starter
The tasting plate for 4 people (mixed Niçoise specialties Pissaladièra [pizza], Farcis, Panisses [chickpea chips], candied peppers, served on a bed of mixed greens.)

Main Course - please advise your choice
1.    Niçois ravioli with stew and porcini mushrooms
or
2.    Ravioli with campagnola sauce (button mushroom, porcini mushrooms, pesto, crème fraiche) (Vegetarian)
or
3.    Old-fashioned lasagna

Dessert
Chocolate Panacotta

Many thanks!

Andy, Lamefrog, thank you for the preparatory work. Our choices are:

One Vegetarian Ravioli (Sofia)

Two Niçois Ravioli (Veronique and I)

Four Lasagne (Floriane, Cecilia, Douwe and Sebastian)

I understood that the 1/2-ling (Vanessa) will eat from her parent’s plate(s).

Hello everyone,

Just want to mention that the restaurant is located in a picturesque square in the heart of the Old Town (Vieux Nice) , at the foot of the cathedral.  Hopefully, the bells will toll which would make for a nice experience... It can get touristy , but October should be ok.  If the weather permits, we'll be seated outside.

The restaurant is part of a network of establishments that has received the "cuisine nissarde" label, which means that it aims to provide an authentic regional culinary experience using traditional methods. The beef stew, called "daube", is a local specialty.  The meat is braised in wine and herbs and marinates overnight.  The small-sized ravioli is made fresh every morning on location in the vieux Nice.

So it's the "1. Niçois ravioli with stew" for me as well .

Philippe

@lamefrog, @andybarton: can you advice me for some nice local wine which would fit?

They have a Bandol on the menu , close enough , but if you want something really local,  the choice would be a Bellet .  If you’re interested, the Chateau de Bellet , 15 km north of Nice and 300m  upwards, might be open for visits , great wine experience and breathtaking views.

Well, that's a generous offer Andy, and I do fancy it, but I will have to contend with my own geographical location and cooking. Mind you, I am prepared to boast about my cooking if anyone fancies it.
