That sounds queer. An update through Leica Fotos does not work like that.

I might be wrong. I wanted to uodate via the app. But that function was not available yesterday . . .

I’m new to this so maybe not. But while the firmware was updating in the camera, Fotos returned to app mode and wasn’t displaying any firmware related messages.

I experienced 2 update situations in different Leica cameras so far:

- I am asked to export my profiles. After the update I can then import again.

- I am NOT asked to export profiles. At the end of the update my profiles are still here.

There might be other situations. Plus the update via the app is quite new to Leica. Its difficult to say now what went wrong in your update. Its annoying and at least an hours work to get somewhere back to where you were before. But be optimistic: Your new profiles will be better than the old ones . . . 😇

After a week or so using the camera, I needed to redo the profiles so maybe not all that bad in the end…

Help??  I just updated from the FOTOS app (I decided to) and everything seemed to go just fine.  However, after the screen that said "Updating" disappeared it has now left a blank screen and the red indicator light on the back is a solid glow of red.  Nothing seems to be happening and I am going to turn the cam off in about 5 minutes.  I am fearful the process may have "bricked" the Q3.  I will let you know soon.  😱

If anyone has a suggestion, I am all ears.......

Bob

EDIT:  I did not see the original response to my own post and if that appears I apologize.

  • Left the cam off for 15 minutes
  • Turned it off, red light still on.  Wouldn't turn back on.
  • Removed battery (as I should have) replaced after 20 seconds
  • Cam Booted up to time/date/place screens.... couldn't  get back to the start screen
  • Turned off then on, then start screen appeared
  • Reloaded Profiles --  back in business
  • Tried FOTOS app.  It worked.  Closed app, cam was blank, then start screen appeared after half press of shutter
  • I'd not noted this in the past...maybe I'd never looked.
  • Decided to reset the cam to default.... did that, reloaded profiles, and everything seems to work
  • Avoided disaster but still a little uneasy.
  • Recommendation:  Beware of updating from the FOTOS app.  Curious about others experience.
  • PS..... I have updated many cams in the past with no issues.

The release notes on Leica’s website hardy refer to anything but FOTOS has these features as you select the v1.2 upgrade. Clearly the PDF team didn’t get the email from the FOTOS team 🙂

Phew, just downloaded the firmware update using Fotos and all went fine. It did take a long time.
I was getting a bit nervous as I usually use the tried and true SD card method but for some reason decided to use the app.

Did you read my post 2 above yours?  Take a look and see if you had the same experience.  If you did I will start a thread advising against using FOTOS for updating firmware.  If not here it is:

I only read your post after I had finished updating my camera.

As I mentioned I used Fotos and “ all went fine” The updating took several minutes and the camera got quite warm but there were no problems.

Did you get something displayed on the screen when it finished updating indicating it indeed had finished?  Did it ask you to pull the battery, turn off then on?? Anything?  Mine did not.

Glad it's working, personally i'd only ever use an SD card to update firmware. I remember skipping a Sony update when they tried to force people to do it via an app and it caused so many issues, they soon went back to the SD method a few weeks later.

During Beta testing that update through the app worked fine. Maybe there is still the one or other little bug. That whole app has improved a lot. That can be said as well. It turned into an app that can easily be used and is useful at the same time.

That first para reminds me of Homer Simpson "it sounds like english but I haven't a clue what he's saying". Why does it tell you to tap and hold the shutter button, and then, at the end, say that it happens automatically without having to tap and hold the shutter button?

The documentation is a bit of a car crash really - like your comparison!! the PDF summary is just a blank page with ‘Bug fixes’ and the FOTOS app summary is written in a mystical way! Maybe the two teams weren’t speaking to each other on the day?

My new Q3 (with the new 1.2 firmware) froze. It was with a lexar profesional 64GB 300mb/s SD Xac II u3 10. Is another card better? Thanks for the help 😊

Kingston Canvas React are the best cards available and at a good price, never had any issues with mine.

FYI --

I purposely left the Q3 off for 24 hours.  The startup time was still 3 to 4 seconds.  However, it was within one second the previous day when it had been off for 6 hours.

Considering the "freeze" issue, which Kin DahI reported, did not seem to be solved, I would be curious what specific bug fixes were referred to and corrected by Leica, referenced in the FW release notes.

I left Q3 off for about 10 hours. Turning on was instant (<1 sec).

It has been observed that sometimes SD cards influence startup time. I am using 128GB Delkin Black (UHS-II), formatted in the camera.

Lexar 1800X V60 U3 formatted in camera after the FW update.  I commented my Q3 started up ~1s after 6 hours.  Could have been a little less.  Curious if you would allow your Q3 to sit for about a day and then start it up.  Admittedly it was difficult for me but I was curious.

It is difficult not to use the Q3 for 24 hours :). I'll try.

I think it's been established now that V60 cards do not play well with the Q3, i've had this confirmed to me by Leica also. My start up time is around 1s with a V90 Kingston Canvas React.
