My never seen or used black paint MP. It’s on the way! I’ve gone from film to nothing to digital DSLR and now an M11 and MP. I love the size of the rangefinders and am excited to see some film work again.

The same effect can be had by taking the battery out of the MP!

How about framelines ?

This is the detail that non M-A  user spread over and over again.

Shutter release travel shorter is another subtle "thing" which can not be done when bettery is taken out.

MP is indeed a  very nice M I used for many years, but when M-A launched in 2014, I swapped.

All of the modern ones are outside of my budget, but the M11 does look nice to me. I owned a M6TTL and hated it. Owned an M4 for over 30 years and it was definitely my favorite, although I now own an M2 and a bunch of Barnacks. The fascination never ends.

My favorite is the MP in either Silver or Black. I would eliminate the M-A. The same effect can be had by taking the battery out of the MP!

I wanted to buy an MP a few years ago then tried them both side by side and went for the M-A.

  • Apart from the 75mm, all other frame lines look better on the M-A
  • The viewfinder is ever so slightly brighter (to me, although some people don’t “see” the difference) but it is surely less cluttered
  • The shorter shutter release travel is also “not felt” by some people, but I could feel the difference
  • MP has a plastic ISO dial, the ISO dial on the M-A is just a reminder, but a nicer looking reminder to me :)

I sometimes did miss the light meter in the beginning..

Wow, you can turn a BP or silver MP into a black chrome M-A by removing the battery?   Does Leica have a patent on that technology? 😉

Black. I used to say shiny black paint which means MP but the other day I saw a heavily worn black chrome Leica and it looked so proper and I know some people hate the silvery wear marks but I liked it so now I don't give a darn (euphemism) so that can also mean M-A. The Leica M4 was the first M Leica I ever saw so that shape with the angled rewind knob means Leica to me so maybe an M6 with some tape over the red dot. But given my finances I probably can only afford a black M4-2. I have a silver Leica M so I don't need another.

I would never recommend they discontinue any current model of film Leica. Good grief.
