I have the Domke F5XB in waxed canvas as well - bought around 2011. I liked it mostly, but I find the padding a bit limited: it's essentially a rectangle of padding in a u-shape that covers both long sides and the base - nothing at the ends, so it was quite easy to knock kit inside from that direction. Is that still the same padding design?

Horses for courses, as they say. I have never found the Domke bags lacking in padding, at the ends, or elsewhere. In contrast, I have found the Billingham bags a bit too ‘chunky’, for my taste, at least. I use one now as it was free, and it’s a good size for one M and 3 lenses, which I like. I have another Domke bag (can’t remember the no.) which I use as an all-round travel bag for two M bodies and a few lenses.

The Domke bags just seem to allow you to stuff more in, compared to others. Probably due to the lack of padding.

Too much work. If you don't believe me from what I say, that's up to you. I'm just passing on my experience to the OP - I'm not trying to convince anyone I'm right and you're wrong. Others are posting their own experience and the OP can make a call.

In the end functionality is more important than appearance. I had an Ona Brixton in leather for a while: stunning looks, but heavy, difficult to get stuff in and out, attachments that were probably not up to the weight the bag could hold. On close inspection the leather was thin laminated stuff and would probably easily tear. I was glad to sell it while it still looked good.

i agree on the Ona Brixton, i still have it but to my dismay, the weights is misleading for a thin laminated so called leather, and since i swapped for oberwerth.. i still used to full leather though since i prefer patina over wear and tear of fabrics

for the OP my freiburg bag can hold 2 M's with lens like noctilux 1.2 50mm usually for street and for transporting i have the muenchen sized, this one definitely oversized for M but i also take my hasselblad along

Another of my Fogg bags that aged very poorly.  You can also see the dye transfer to the inner lining, and can also compare the much darker original colour where it has seen less exposure.  And this is a bag that has not seen rain etc

This bag was $1000!  If a $100 bag did this I wouldn’t be happy…. Like I said, I bought these before I knew better.

Looks like it has been run over by a truck!

Sell it to Lenny or some other dick who rubs the paint off their Leica with emery paper.

I know, right?

Funny how all three of my Fogg bags have aged like this - and none have seen weather nor anything required of them but to pamper my Leicas.

and yet there are others here that refuse to post pics of their Fogg bags but claim they are the bestest thing ever, but trust them, they just don’t have time to post.  You know how long it took me to post it?  Including taking out my cell phone, oh, about 30 seconds.

Anyway, $1000 bag.  Up to you if you think that’s worth it.

My 20+ year old all-black b-laika and lyre bags still look fine, not anything like yours.  If I had experienced that sort of wear, I would have long ago contacted Nigel and bee to discuss issues.  Their attention to service and quality standards has been superb in my experience. Before bee’s passing, I know that they also did full refurbishments if desired, as Jono wrote about some time ago.

No thanks.  I don’t post photos here.  But I surely would have emailed pics to Nigel if I had concerns. That’s the benefit of a small company whose owners (and only workers) communicate directly with customers.

I use Peak Design Field Pouch which fits one M body and one M lens (smaller lens, like 40/2, 21/4, 35 lux pre-asph or 35 steel rim).
The bag mounts on your belt and my camera is double secured with custom made 150cm/5 ft. leather camera strap across my shoulder.
This setup represents the ultimate freedom and adequate protection even for third world countries. A perfect fit, a perfect match for my height (I am 6.2ft/189cm). The bag even fits an extra batery and cloth. The other lens is in my pocket. The smallest setup this side of Billingham Avea 5.

This is a good reminder that I should go check out the Peak store. The Field Pouch looks too big, but the Range Pouch might work.

The recommendations here are, generally, for bags that look bigger and heavier than what I want. Any suggestions that are more like this? https://www.amazon.com/Case-Logic-Bryker-Durable-BRCS102/dp/B075F33LWS I’d love something that has more padding on the bottom, though. So often, I find that bags are padded everywhere but the bottom, which seems odd.

Thank you for all the input!!

Don't take it personally that someone has a different opinion - I just don't find such things (posting a picture of a worn bag) that interesting. As you can see, I was mainly offering advice to the OP, and mainly on functionality.

And I paid nowhere near $1000 for any of mine. Perhaps that's why I'm more relaxed.

The "Havana Mini" bag from rocknrollstraps.com might be an option as well. I have the bigger "Havana Small" that fits two bodies or up to five lenses with one M body and I like it very much. The company is based in Cyprus, shipment to Germany took 3 days via FedEx. I have the Peak Design Everyday Sling 3L as well - which is great for outdoor activity. Very versatile is the Leica Neoprene Case M to carry your camera in virtually any bag. I use it when biking with a small backpack or  messenger bag that holds rain coat, water bottle or other stuff

Nah.  I see it as someone who gives actual advice with evidence backing up such advice.  Thus actually providing verifiable experience that is useful for someone else to base a decision on.

Nothing personal here - just providing transparency for others to make an educated decision based on fact.

For single camera use I currently use a free Pentax nylon bag that came with a $20 Pentax P30T (great little SLR by the way).

It is unassuming, no-one pays any attention to you, and it is more functional than my Fogg (much more secure closure, seals up properly, has not aged at all).

This isn't a dig on Fogg bags, I also have an Oberwerth Munchen which completely shades Foggs in build quality, functionality and style but that is only now used to store cameras because it too screams expensive bag.  I prefer to be more discrete in public nowadays for many reasons, even if these expensive bags perform better than cheap bags.  But they tend not to.

That looks really nice, and I was unfamiliar with it. Thank you! It is bigger than what I'm looking for. Anything that has room for more than the camera + attached 50mm lens + attached lens cap + attached camera strap + extra SD card is probably bigger than I'd like.

I like bags for cameras that do not look like camera bags. Slings seem to be modern approach, so I thought I would try a couple sizes.

The Bellory Lite sling mini here is one of their smaller ones at 4 litres and holds a M10.

The 9L variants is good for two bodies.

There are so many useful bags in my closet... all kinds, sizes, etc. A Domke F5XB that I've had for thirty years is an old favorite for an M and a lens or two, various PD and Wotancraft and other sling bags, and a Billingham and Tenba bags or three all suit the purpose.

What I've been using most the past few months is an old Lowepro Terraclime 100 satchel. It's thin on padding ... when I want more padding, I line it with a couple of wraps. And it's basically just a modest open space with a zippered pocket in the back, two open pockets on the outside under the flap, and a flap-over top. If I'm carrying a few things that I don't want to bang into one another, yet another wrap or a lens pouch does the job.

I think it cost me $60 a decade and some ago. Shows no sign of giving up the ghost, and works great. It ain't flashy or expensive, or even looks like a camera bag. It's just simple satchel that works.

I take the comments from long time members here as fact.

Experiences differ.  I bought an Oberwerth Porto to hold my SL2 and 2 zooms, including the 90-280, but found it too bulky and rigid, and disliked the clasp mechanism.  I traded it on a much less expensive Billingham Hadley One, which suits much better, and is lighter and more water resistant.  My bags, all black, tend to be far more discreet than the colored counterparts, and wear well (The Billinghams are synthetic material, not canvas.)

To each his/her own. There’s a reason bag threads proliferate here; as many opinions, uses and options as there are forum participants.

I generally agree with your approach. I often just throw one of these in whatever bag I want to use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JVJXSXW/

In this particular thread, I'm just looking for something super small and lightweight that could fit inside the insert linked above (as the Lowepro in my original message does). If it can fit an extra lens, this isn't the thread for it. :)
