Advertisement Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Hi della000, Take a look here Alternate lens for leica m6?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted July 5, 2023 Share #2  Posted July 5, 2023 The Nikon lens won’t be connected to the rangefinder on your camera, so you will need to zone focus, which isn’t ideal  Zeiss make/made M compatible lenses as did Cosina. There are (seemingly) dozens of Chinese companies making some good and some not so good M lenses today.
TomB_tx Posted July 5, 2023 Share #3 Â Posted July 5, 2023 (edited) Nikon did make lenses in Leica Thread Mount (ltm) in the 1950s that fit and focus on Leica cameras. Nikon supplied them to some Japanese makers who copied the early Leica camera design. You often find the 5 cm (50mm) Nikkor HC (close focus) lens on Nicca cameras. These are excellent lenses and should work fine on an M6 using a common ltm to M mount adapter. Of course, Nikon also made lenses in mounts for Nikon Rangefinder and SLR cameras, and these have no focus cam to work on Leica Rangefinder cameras. Which Nikon lens? Â If it is an LTM mount Nikon lens, then you should be able to focus with the LTM-M adapter. Â If it is a Nikon Rangefinder mount lens, or Nikon F mount, you will not be able to focus using your rangefinder.
250swb Posted July 5, 2023 Share #5  Posted July 5, 2023 (edited) What’s wrong with a Voigtlander lens? They offer by far the best range to choose from and modern quality. Edited July 5, 2023 by 250swb
jaapv Posted July 5, 2023 Share #6  Posted July 5, 2023 I also would know of no reason to exclude Voigtländer lenses. In fact, they build quite a few that are of the highest quality.
LocalHero1953 Posted July 5, 2023 Share #7  Posted July 5, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use Nikon 3.5cm and 2.8cm LTM lenses which couple to my Barnacks without problem, so should be fine for the M6 with the M-LTM adapter.

If it had been the very rare and expensive adapter for Nikon S lenses it would have worked, so let’s assume it was a Nikon F to Leica M adapter. I think the OP needs a simple solution by forgetting adapters and exotica and just a suggestion for an M lens. Which brings us to the second elephant in the room, he doesn’t say what focal length he’s after so who has a crystal ball?
spydrxx Posted July 5, 2023 Share #9 Â Posted July 5, 2023 There are a number of 50mm lenses which will work fine on your M6. The critical issue is that they must be equipped with either a Leica M mount or Leica Thread Mount with an adapter. Probably the most prolific ones for the M mount are Leica, Voigtlander, and Zeiss with up and comers from China such as TTArtisans and 7Artisans;Â in the Leica Thread Mount Nikon, Canon, Voigtlander, and a host of smaller manufacturers have a broad range of lenses. You need to further elaborate on the lens you are presently futzing with, and give some indication on what you are seeking...including your budget.
