In between their beta software they release with their cameras like the M11 and their awful releases makes me wish there was a real Leica competitor and no Fuji is not in the same level as much as I love Fuji cameras.

Baffles me that a company of such reputation (it used to have such) that charges what they charge for their products can’t do a decent release plan, maybe start taking orders 6 months before “release” I don’t know. Me being a fool sold my Fuji traveling gear to replace with the Q3 and I have a trip at the end of July. I pre order on Leica Miami at 9:04 AM but at this point nobody knows anything so there could be 200 preorders ahead for all I know.

And sure it is first world problems, but when you pay what you pay for a Leica I feel the least we can expect  is at least a straight forward honest answer of an estimate time frame or something.

I applaud adorama for at least putting an expected date. Leica Miami knows less than I do, feels like if you’re not in their inner circle they brush you off, that’s how it feels every time I walk into that store.

This isn’t new…. Same thing happens with every release. Why anyone would sell their current gear because they think they’ll be able to get a new Leica camera on day 1 is beyond me. I bet half of the Adorama orders are people who ordered from two or more places.

Not day one, in two months, which is plenty of reasonable considering I pre ordered at 9:04 AM with Leica Miami, hence the frustration with the lack of communication and information.

This is also my first time buying a Leica at release date so I didn’t think it would be that long if ordering as soon as possible.

Exactly the same as at any other Leica release. A fair number available at release, the rest are months later. The only surprise is that people are surprised.

If they took orders 6 months before release, who is going to hand over money that far ahead when they don't know the specs? And without handing over money, why would Leica ramp up manufacturing on the basis of orders that might be cancelled at release?

Yes, first world problem. Definition: a trivial problem that people think ought not to exist because they have money......

Do you realize Leica itself takes pre orders without payment? And so do many other retailers. Can easily announce with a realistic date to give them time to produce and treat all customers to a fair playing field. I won’t be purchasing one if it takes longer than two months and I’m sure there’s more people in the same situation, and Leica claims it values customers so much and what not so if that’s the case then it’s not smart to potentially lose a a real customer even if they have another hyped YouTuber waiting to purchase one.

I was lucky to get the Q2 within a month of announcement thru Leica Miami in 2019. But that’s been a relatively rare story in my history with the brand. I’ve been on “wait” lists for M lenses at B&H and Adorama for years!  Each month or two I get “We didn’t forget you!” messages from them.  I long ago found the lenses elsewhere but remain on these useless lists to get occasional chuckles.

Leica has thrived as a big back-order brand because they’re a luxury good brand, like Birkin bags. Nobody needs them; they’re objects of lust.  So these swollen their backlogs only strengthen their brand.

You suggest that Leica should take orders 6 months before release, but you won't wait more than two months.🤔

I totally understand the frustration and disappointment, but unfortunately, it is what it is, and theres not much we can do but wait it seems. Something that I do wish they could do is provide our pre order number, even if it's not accurate since people before you can cancel or give up their spot. I think that'd be harmless and doable though. It'll just give an idea how many people were able to pre order before me since it seems many people were able to call their dealers and pre order even before the official release which makes it hard for me to gauge (since mine was 9:04am EST). What if like hundreds called in or something before me haha. Also, what makes me somewhat disappointed is that some sites have options for waitlist where you get priority if you put in a deposit. This makes me think that even though I'm on a waitlist early, others can be put ahead of me if they included $$ which was not an option in leicamiami on the site. People are probably able to call their dealers and pay in full or deposit after me, and get priority spot before me. While I understand paying a deposit indicates more serious purchasing intent, it doesn't feel fair (though life isn't fair), so que sera sera.

I've just talked to a Leica-Store owner in Munich. He said, at the moment and to his knowledge he expects that further shipments should arrive latest in July and that in August, everyone in our area who wants to have a Q3 should have one.

So it definitely is in line of sight - at least in Germany or maybe Central Europe in general. Let's see how it will turn out.

I for my take have no haste as I have nice cameras to use. No pressure.

The only risk is, that sanity kicks in and I just decide to stay with the still great Q2 :)

When I ordered I got an unconfirmed 5th June delivery date from their system but I’m familiar with that sales platform, it’ll just keep adding days until it actually knows something.

I will be disappointed if I don’t get it inside June. I only have my M6 right now and it’s not practical for my needs over summer. It’s what I get for hesitating. It’ll still be a great camera in July I guess?

In my area I've been given a time window that could go into December.  Sanity will definitely kick in.  The only issue is I may want to sell/trade my "new" Q2 when I consider getting the Q3......all of which means I don't want to risk damage to the existing Q2..... so I will need to also use my "nice cameras" for the time being.  Or, as Daniel indicated, sanity would dictate the Q2 is really good at what it does......I know how to use it to get the photos I want.  I'll just be satisfied and move on.

It would be nice if people cancelled their multiple orders. It doesn’t get them the camera any faster and screws over everyone. Let’s be responsible. I know someone who already has two cameras shipped the same day from two different places and now wants $500 more for it.

Buying to flip is bad form, I agree. But ordering from multiple places and then cancelling the extra orders doesn't really hurt anyone, the list suddenly moves faster for those waiting. The problem is you have no idea how inventory is allocated. Leica stores first? Or B&H/Adorama? There is a small Leica boutique in northern NJ - is he getting anything in this century?

I suppose it will never change, but Leica sort of contributes to this with their launch roll outs...

Having said this, it does give me time to pause and think what do I want to do (first time Leica purchaser, non-pro hobbyist, travel, landscape, and occasional basic astrophotography) - the Q3 or an M11 with a 35mm. Different cameras and purposes I know, but my technology background always makes me think I want something with more flexibility (interchangeable lenses), but in reality I don't know how often I would leverage this, and the crop-ability of the  60 mp sensor makes the q3 more flexible. I like the tilt screen on the Q3, and wonder how much "better" maestro IV is vs. III.

So the delay lets me hem and haw again (maybe Leica WANTS this lol...)

It’s probably bad form but I ordered both from the Los Angeles Leica Store (#120 on launch day) and Samy’s Camera (big camera store here in Los Angeles - I’m still #6 in line.) The chances that both cameras show up on the same day are low. I hope the five photographers in front of me have multiple orders that all come in soon. Obviously, I’ll cancel whichever order doesn’t come in first, buying multiple cameras and scalping is certainly bad form, I don’t need that kind of karma.
