Presumably more el-juice... Which would be good, for the SL2-bodies eat batteries.
Chuck Albertson Posted May 25, 2023 Share #4 Posted May 25, 2023 And about $100 off the cost of the SCL4.
padam Posted May 25, 2023 Share #5 Posted May 25, 2023 Camera compatibility: Leica Q3 | Q2 *| SL2* |SL2-S *| SL* Note* The certifications of the battery with these camera models are in process and completed by: Leica Q2 by the end of September 2023 Leica SL2 | SL2-S by the end of July 2023 Leica SL by the end of December 2023 The question is: will the cameras work the same as before, e.g. disabling high-speed continuous and 4K recording modes below a certain percentage?

Probably yes, but the follow-up question is "will the percentage be the same as before?" Presumably they can set the threshold 20% lower, since the new battery has 20% more power. Leica does this to avoid having the camera run-out of battery in the middle of a 4K shot, or a high-speed continuous sequence. The threshold used to be quite high with non-Leica L-Mount lenses, but that was fixed several firmware revisions ago.

I'm going for it. By the time this battery is available for sale again, I'm sure it will have been "certified" for the SL2 and then there will be another run on inventory, particularly if found it doesn't disable high-speed continuous and 4K recording modes at about 20% battery on the SL2 or we get more time with the battery before it disables those features. I just bought/have the new Q3 battery to use in my SL2 camera. It has zero charge left out of the box ( first time I've seen that with a battery purchase) Or maybe it doesn't charge my SL2. Need to check that out with the SL2 charger regardless. My idea is to test this new, stronger battery ( I think I read 18-20% stronger?) on my SL2 to see if: 1. It helps eliminate the camera block for using high speed continuous or 4K settings when the current SL battery drops below 20% charge. 2. Or, maybe just gives me another 18-20% usage/time over the current SL battery before the camera blocks access to high speed continuous or shooting 4K mode settings when the battery drops below 20% charge. I'm not exactly sure how best to test #2, if some of you have some advice/ideas 🙏🏼
bherman01545 Posted June 15, 2023 Share #15 Posted June 15, 2023 Also, regarding this BP-SCL6 or even the new BP-SCL4 battery, do not initially charge the battery in a Nitecore Charger. The battery will charge up, but if you try to charge it again or top it off in the Leica charger, the green light will go on, and the amber light will just flicker, indicating an error. You then need to partially discharge the battery and then complete it he charge cycle in the Leica charger. Leica support told me that the initial charge should be in a Leica charger due to the chip 4

Seems to have charged as expected so off to a good start/experiment with the SL2.

Results due this month(July) hopefully. Also since the Q3 is about 18% stronger than the original SL2 battery maybe one way to look at it is the Q3 battery may provide up to about 18% more shooting time before it blocks 4K recording/Continuous Shooting at 20% or below battery charge. Pretty easy to work with if this doesn't catch you off guard otherwise. But still... 2
Photoworks Posted June 22, 2023 Author Share #18 Posted June 22, 2023 I was not expecting a miracle. the only way to eliminate the 4K issue is to use a battery grip with 2nd battery. For sone shooting the USBC external battery works to provide longer power delivery, but doesn't provide enough to keep the batteries of the cameras charged. Elliot Saulten Posted June 27, 2023 Share #19 Posted June 27, 2023 So I was able to get hold of two of the new batteries. I charged them in the same charger as what came with my Sl2 and Sl2s, no problem full charge in about the same time as the others. Loaded only one in the Sl2s and it started and shut down without any malfunctions. I then too about 50 or so photos and all was good. I still have plenty of battery showing and I am quite happy with the experiment. As a side note as previously mentioned in other posts the batteries cost about $100 less than the old ones. In the packaging there was a date code list for their manufacture, mine was March 2023. 2
