I would like to see a Q3 with no video too, but only to see the faces of the purists when they are faced with a 10k price for the kit, since Leica will have to make up for the lost sales to the video folks somehow.

Yeah, I would be out if there were no video features. I like the idea of a small, no fuss hybrid.

I did read that my Q2 can do video, so the Q3 might be able to do it too.  I believe it gives you moving pictures, but I can't imagine that anyone would want to use it. Fortunately Leica hides the feature really well and doesn't waste any R&D expense on it.

If my butler didn’t take the horseless carriage to the city with my Q3 still inside, I’d be able to tell you whether it makes moving pictures or not.

The video folks will have plenty of models to choose from in the Q series.  As in the Q2 there will be an "M" and possibly replacements for the "Dawn", "Disney" "Ghost", "Reporter" and others.  I believe there is a market for a dedicated "Stills only" Leica Q in a price range that fits the Leica brand.

Except for 10s shots with the phone, I guess I will never do video: can’t imagine myself editing the things I film. Rather spend my time on photos.

That said, I am not bothered with video on a camera as long as it doesn’t have its own buttons.

More details have leaked (via LR😞

  • triple resolution technology
  • latest Maestro with L2 technology
  • Leica Perspective Control (LPC) and Leica Dynamic Range (LDR)
  • hybrid AF includes PDAF

An intriguing part of the article:  "The Leica Q3 uses the entire size of the sensor for all resolutions."    It will be interesting to see how noise is handled at the 2 lower resolutions.  The cam may be a "beast!"

Probably same way it does on the M11.

I’m intrigued about the ‘Eco’ and ‘Performance’ connectivity mode. I’m guessing Eco uses BLE only for geotagging or something and Performance uses Wi-Fi for wireless tethering? MIMO Wi-Fi, presumably 2x2 with 802.11 AC would be nice for higher bandwidth to support higher quality live view with less lag and faster file transfer from the FOTOs app.

As a newer Leica owner I was unfamiliar with the M11's 3 resolution option.  Now I know.  Still a beast.

The noise will be the same for the same-sized output (same as in M11).

I’m guessing it’s either a rebranding or an improved version of iDR found on the SL2-S (and probably other Leica bodies).

I hope that it is something more useful. Leica Q2 already has iDR.

Having an in-camera frame averaging and image alignment would be nice.
