A lot of reasons why what Leica Rumors says makes no sense. Not least of which are a new Disney Special Edition and new firmware for a camera that according to them is supposedly going to be replaced in less than a month. The reality is Leica will launch it when it makes business sense for them and not when some cheap site looking for clicks thinks it’s the right time.

Wow, relax - it’s just another opinion as “accurate” as all the other guesses here including any by you and me.

Unfortunately it is the guesses and rumours on social media that have given us the likes of the U.S. insurrection and climate change denial.

If people would keep their opinions to themselves we'd be a lot better off.

This forum would then be a series of blank pages.

a new Disney Special Edition and new firmware for a camera

I had the same view about the Q3 release date for precisely these reasons; however, if there are only 250 of the Disney camera, it will probably sell out quickly and won’t be affected by an imminent release of the Q3.

The firmware question is different.  There are lots of Q2 users out there so no surprise that Leica updates the firmware.  I would expect them to continue to do so, irrespective of any new camera release.

Now THAT’s a big stretch. But at the risk of the moderators closing the “discussion”, I’ll just leave it at that.

Have fun, I’m going out in the rain to shoot some street photography. I’ll take my Q2M and leave the M10M home for today.

Apparently Leica has only done this once before for an obsolete camera, and that was the SL1.

This didn't take much finding. Firmware for M10, dating from the end of last year.

And I see firmware 3.1 for the Q was issued around Feb 2019, with the Q2 launched in March 2019.

I know I said there was a "Q3" coming at the end of May,  but you do make some good points. Why a Disney model and a new FW version so close to a new release. Maybe they'll keep the Q2 and run a new model in parallel. Maybe I'll be eating the humble pie! Who knows? :)

Just realized a funny coincidence - LFI contacted me recently and asked to use an image of mine taken with a Q2M for a "special Q publication" - I didn't even think about the timing but now it strikes me they'll perhaps doing an issue around the release of the Q3. They certainly didn't tell me that, but given the rumors and the timing, I'm betting that's what this was...we'll see!

The rumors previously were of a “Q-E” that would basically be a Q2 to run at a lower price point than the Q3. What isn’t clear yet is whether that model would have a lower price point than the Q2 or be the same, with the Q3 at a higher price point.

And same on the M side of things.
The M11 was released in January 2022, and now we have the M11M. So Leica seems to release monochrom versions more or less one year after the main release.
