SL2-S with Elmarit R 100  and R adapter (I have both this lens and the Sigma 105).  I love the R lens with the SL2-S . . . with  (a) the focus peaking (b)the inbody stabilisation and (c) the great performance at very high ISO (this was ISO 3200) enabling high shutter speeds, I do a lot of macro work like this handheld (bees are not easy!!) with great results

I've enjoyed using Leica's Macro-Elmar-M 90/4.  Its collapsible design makes it an easy-to-carry general telephoto for both an M and SL body (with adapter).  Mounting the included accessory macro-adapter/viewfinder converts it to an excellent macro lens which the SL2 recognizes.  I've been very pleased with its optical characteristics both as a normal and a macro lens.

It's not cheap but it's a terrific solution if you use both an SL and M camera body.

I am going to get the Leica TL 60mm macro shortly. I brought a copy of it when it was new on the market several years ago and made the dumb mistake of selling it. Regretted doing this from the moment it left my possession. As I still have TL2 and CL bodies as well as my SL2-S I have plenty of options for mounting it. It makes a wonderful short telephoto as well.

It is the only Leica lens I have ever sold, and here I am buying another copy 😀

I have the Macro M adapter and the El Pro 52 set too but it's much easier to grab the TL 60 for everyday usage with the SL-2 camera body. It's an invaluable lens and as you stated, since it's a 90mm lens on the SL-2, it does work as a shorter tele lens too.

Picked up a cheap Elmar f4 100mm R lens converted to EF.. seems lovely. I think i’ll need close up tubes as well, but so far so good with the hand held tests!

Today there is a new one: Panasonic 100mm/2.8 Macro

https://www.dpreview.com/news/4480524519/panasonic-lumix-100mm-macro-lens-announcement-ces2024

a very small design

I wonder whether the rumored Leica SL makro lens will be based on the 100mm Panasonic, or the Sigma 105mm, or something in-house made.

Oh, I think the future Leica SL makro will definitely be based on this new Panasonic lens, and be made in the Leica Portugal factory. It will make for a very nice Leica 35-50-100 SL Asph. trio.
