Dear Leica Forum members,

we would like to know your opinion about lenses for Leica M cameras that do not come from Leica, but from third-party manufacturers such as Voigtländer, Zeiss or TTArtisan. These lenses often offer an alternative to Leica lenses and sometimes have features that Leica does not offer.

We would be happy if you participate in our survey and share your opinion with us. Your feedback will help us to better tailor our offer to your needs.

Thank you in advance!

Strange questionnaire to ask about various brands of lens (e.g.  Zeiss, TTArtisan) but only has specific questions about Voigtlander.  Could be some very interesting results if Zeiss, TTArtisan, 7Artisan etc were listed out.  I have a TTArtisan 1.4/35 ASPH for M-series for example that is an excellent lens for the price (a fraction of the cost of a Summilux) and a very good compromise if you are looking for an economical lens for occasional use.  I've also in the past had good results from Zeiss Biogons and Distagons for M.

I would like Leica to offer its versions of some of the older or rarer lenses from other manufacturers such as the Konica 21-35 mm Dual Hexanon-M, the Zeiss Sonnars, the Rollei 40/2.8 Sonnar, the Zunow 50/1.1, and the Zeiss 75/1.5 Biotar.

There must be a thousand M-mount lenses that could go into a survey, which would mean that the data collection would be a nightmare and most of that data wouldn't be very relevant in any case.

True but if Leica wishes to collect data then I am happy to provide my take on things.  They don't need to collect or process it but if they do then it's there and if they do want to but we don't provide the data then they can't.  Whether they do something or nothing with the data at least they've got it and have the choice.

Just to be clear: This survey is my own project and is not affiliated with Leica in any way.

Thank you for clarifying that, Andreas, I hadn't picked that up.

I'm personally very happy with Leica lenses and currently don't own any other manufacturer's products, but use to own Cosina and Zeiss in the past.

What I really miss is a camera like Ricoh GR. Light, small, with sharp (Elmarit) lens... for my hiking and cycling trips.

If you ignore LTM lenses then I'd say probably hundreds at most. I currently have no non-Leica M mount lenses though so no point in taking the survey. What might also be useful would be a survey of 'wants' in terms of focal length/aperture especially now the Summarits are no longer available.

My 'Which lens do you miss?' is perhaps off-topic for this M-mount survey, but it would be a modern 50mm in LTM. Leica have occasionally made limited runs in the modern era, and VC used to before the M patents expired, but are there any current ones? I don't think either of the 'Artisans' are doing them. A VC APO-Lanthar might be nice, though it's a little on the large side. 50mm is the obvious focal length because of the Barnack viewfinder, but others would be welcome. We see the same lens being made in several different versions (e.g. different finishes/metals or glass coatings), so it wouldn't be a huge stretch to run some off in LTM (and of course they'd still be usable on mirrorless).
