Do we know, roughly, a serial number/date of issue when we can trust the kit hood is correct?

We haven't yet had a report of anyone receiving a new lens that shipped with the updated hood.

I got mine from Leica USA on July 30th which had the new hood.

Can you share the month/year assembly date on the box? The serial number won't tell @setuporg anything useful as Leica is all over the map with those.

I have the box in storage, but I found a post in another thread about this lens. It looks like it was 2023/07/17.

The  manf date on my lens box is Oct 11, 2023 (10/11/2023).

I requested a new hood and received one from NJ within 2 weeks.

The hoods are identical in size. And; I haven't tested any yet.

Does anyone know the true height of the replacement HOOD or some distinctive marking to ascertain if it is the replacement?

Look at post #63 above. It shows the two hoods side by side. If your lens had a 10/11/2023 date you most likely already had the new hood.

Just bought the new steel rim. The manufacture date is Sep/20/23. Looks like that it is already with the shallow round hood. Nice thing is that it can serve the steel rim, my VM 35/1.7 as well as zm 28/2.8. 1 for three!  Just want to confirm that the only way to attach a filter to the steel rim is to staking the filter with the round hood? Then that’s not very neat.

I'd like to hear what people think of not using the hood altogether when using a filter.
