I agree! I struggled for months between these two and ended up with a Summilux 35 FLE (old version) because it's cheaper. :D

I owned the lens you own and shot thousands of images with it on my M10, M10R and M11 bodies. (I only own the M11 now). It's a great lens, but I traded it in on the new Summilux 35mm FLE II model.

The APO-Summicron 35mm is my "daily driver". This is only lens that I will take mounted on my M11 on my vacation in Slovenia, Croatia and Albania in 2 days.

Bud James

My most used combinations on the M11 are the 35-APO and 50mm Summicron-DR.

I didn't know that you could use a 50 Summicron Dual Range on an M11 due to inteference. Educate me a bit about this.

Thanks, Keith

If I started over again, I probably would take the 28mm cron (close focus). At the moment I have the 35mm lux which is quite great. But the close focus and a little bit of wideness sometimes would be great for street etc. but nothing to worry about- 35mm is also very cool.

The sensor is further back in the M11.

It works; I've been using it for a while. I've posted a few pictures with the combination over the last few years. I've used close focus a number of times with live view. I've retired the goggles.

The removal of the shutter blade meter on the M11 allows for it to fit. The M11 meters directly off the sensor. I have read it has to be mounted with the focus ring at a specific distance. I’ve heard one person say they use 1m and another said infinity. Perhaps you just can’t mount it with the focus set too close.

The Summicron 50/2 DR is said to be incompatible in the M11 instructions manual if memory serves.

Manual is wrong, likely carried over information from the M10 cameras. Leica has quite the history of errors in the manual during the digital era.

I thought Leica Miami also mentioned the 50 Cron DR worked on the M11. I can't remember which video.

May i ask if you have any experience with that lens? Just curious as i was tempted to acquire a mint copy but the istructions manual did put me off.

I don't, but you could search here. There are at least a few here using it with the M11.

I see you posted the same info about the M11 manual on this thread, too, and were responded to by users of it on the M11:

28mm Summilux (or Voitlander 28mm Ultron II / Thypoch Simmar).

50mm for fast moving kids will be challenging, especially indoors in low light unless you have a huge house with massive rooms. :)

My argument for 28mm is that it gives a lot of context to photos which you might appreciate more in the future when you look back on these family moments, it will give more of a story rather than with 50mm it tends to be more about the subject (distance depending of course).

If 28mm feels too wide then you can't go wrong with the classic 35mm to play it a little safer.

I love 50mm and it was my favourite focal length for many years but recently it's my second fav after 28.

I just received a DR and there is no issue with using it on an M11. It focuses from 1m to Infinity and then just I used Live View for the close focus range. I don't have the goggles.

I haven't had time to go out with it but here are two quick shots I took when I received it.

Over three years of owning an M11 I started with summiluxes, then went smaller and lighter from there. If I were to start over, I’d go with the 28 elmarit, 35 summicron and 50mm summicron, great imagers and all for less than the cost of a single APO lens.

I tried several lenses. Zeiss Biogon 35, then Summicron 50 V5. But using Cron 50 in my Germany trip I understood it's tight for some scenes. That I need more plase and wider angle.
So I decided to buy Summilux 35 FLE II and I did it. My oh my, it's amazing and so versatile lens, very sharp at f1.4. Completely matched with M11 camera.
But I also still have Summicron 50. Use it sometimes because it's small and light, and because changing lenses giving you some new point of view) Like you've got new lens 😀
