I'm so tempted by this lens. Will try it as soon as it's available in my Leica local shop.

What do you think of the 1m MFD? And how is the build quality? There've been some reports of low quality, like moving aperture ring.

Went for a walk in downtown Portland today with my wife. Snapped a few pictures with the 35. Very impressed with this tiny little lens. No images to really write home about but enjoyed using the setup. Really happy I shelled out the dough for it. First two shot wide open just testing out the look and feel wide open with black and white.

A 35 with the close focus, either the APO Summicron or the most recent 35 FLE. I think I might choose for the Summilux in the end, because with the toddlers the  shallow depth of field and fast shutter speeds would give me the most special portraits.

I've always preferred Leica lenses but when looking for a 50mm for my M246 Monochrom I went with a Voightlander 50/2 APO-Lanthar.  For the price you can get a 50mm and a 35mm and not break the bank.  They are both excellent lenses.

Since the OP mentioned that cost was no object (which it was for me) I would agree that either the 35mm or 50mm APO Summicron would be a great choice, but I've never been disappointed with any of Leica's lenses.

Nice shots! I’ve made my mind, just ordered the lens. Should arrive in 3-4 weeks according to the dealer. Super excited!

Actually the new one is about 500 dollars less then the V1 ...but I presume you picked up a used copy which will save you a few thousand

Both are brand new, v1 is heavily discounted in HK grey market as soon as v2 came out.

Tri-Elmar MATE is my go to. Since I got my 3 Focal Lengths and a 40mm Focal 40cm Minimum Focus Macro Between the 28 and 50 (Better than you would expect for Portraits but you loose Infinity Focus, I did not check but I think it goes to around 1.5 Meters Max).

But if its a Readily Available Lens id say 50 Nocti Classic, or maybe the 35 Apo, or 28 Lux.... Aaand that's why I like the Tri-Elmar I'm indecisive :p .

Edit: All Leica Lenses are Beautiful just go with any. The M11 is a Beautiful Camera (Except for the Lizard People Color Raws) that works with any Lens (Except the 90 Collapsible I think, but I did not test it yet).

Edit 2: Doesn't have to be expensive. My first Lens is a brass 90 Elmarit I use to this day and was my only Lens with an MD for 6 Years.

i hate acronym words, what would this mean again? besides, there are plenty 35's

That’s how they always refer to the “King of Bokeh” Summicron. The tiny v4 one.

For me is 28 & 50 combo that wins the day. I had 35mm for a long while as my only lens. It became very frustrating. Sometimes not wide enough and sometimes not narrow enough. But very useful as an only lens.

I love my 50f2. Wouldn’t change it for anything. But I would need my 28 on occasions. 35 would be more practical as the only lens set up.

If I could have an M11 and only one lens I’d go with the 35mm APO. Currently I have neither (I have M9-P, M246, M2, a few lenses but mostly use 35mm Distagon), but I suspect I could do everything with that setup.

For what it’s worth I don’t see any huge problem taking family pictures with an M - my five year old and his friends are well documented! Certainly focusing takes a bit of practice, but it’s eminently achievable. The main thing is to get in the habit of having your camera with you, pictures will follow!
