Am I wrong or the new SL3 looks clearly smaller then the precious cameras?

Looks smaller. And more important - in my view - is that the buttons are back where they are supposed to be, accessible from than hand holding the camera... I have  n e v e r  understood the logic behind putting the review button on the left side of the screen, beyond the 'hint' that the review button should not be used; one should focus on shooting, not reviewing.

But why an illuminated on-off button? I can't recall any suggestion here that it is needed, or that there is anything wrong with the existing switch, which I can find easily in the dark.

I find the switch a bit hard to use frequently. Maybe I should leave the switch and use the automatic switch-off feature instead. It might drain more battery though I don't carry extra battery.

My guess is a PASM dial with custom settings. But I've not seen a top down image yet. Could also be a drive mode dial which would be OK. I would NOT like ISO in that spot. Not like it at all.

I have my SL2 programed so the click for the rear dial is ISO and it's brilliant. Non click is exposure comp (PAS) or aperture (manual). I really like this set up and hope to keep it on the SL3. I change PASM from the quick menu when required. I have exactly the same settings on my X2D's. Makes swapping back and forward seemless.

On my SL2-S I have turning the thumbwheel set to adjust exposure compensation, but I can't see anything in the manual that allows me to change anything other than PASM when I press (and turn) it.  How do you change the 'press thumbwheel' to enable you to change ISO?

There is another reason. It is easy to press a button accidentally when one holds the camera one-handed. It would reduce the problem by using a thumb-up grip or disabling the buttons. I prefer a empty area around the right hand.

IIRC under the latest firmware you can press and hold to change the function for "press and turn".

I hope the illumination is RGB - each color for a special motif-finder (red for people, green for landscape, yellow for street, rgb pulse for bad motifs) - just kidding :) it's  a part for toys-r-us cameras ... not for a profeessional camera.

To my eyes it looks much smaller.  I'm a little concerned about the distance between the inside of the grip and the lens, especially if using something larger like the 50 Lux.  On my Sony cameras I hated using physically wider lenses because my fingers would get pinched between the grip and the lens.

yeah that is a good reason. illumination is such a bad idea.

I can't imagine it will stay on all the time.  Some people shoot at events in spaces like theaters, etc. where having a light on would be distracting to others.

Now, that would be a surprise. Btw, the lens will be 45mm (43 uncorrected)

Any idea how fast the lens will be?

FWIW, if it is the Q with a 45mm lens I'm going to have a very hard time deciding which camera to get.  50mm is my most used focal length and I just sold my Q3 because I was always using it in the 50mm crop mode, throwing pixels away.  The 28mm focal length was really the only complaint I had with the Q3.

Sony finally increased the space between the camera's lens mount and the grip on the new A9III.

That last SL3 leaked image does make the SL3 appear to be smaller than anticipated, at least in that image 🥹

If you compare to the Leica Q3 with the same screen and take out the measurement tape, you can almost figure out the size. It's pretty close.

Some of us remember when the SL was launched and dpreview showed a photo of it held in a tiny hand, making it look far bigger than it is. Maybe Leica ( who probably leaked the picture) has done its own ‘assisted photography’.

I  attempted to replicate the image holding the SL2 in similar position in my hand. Seems we might be looking at an SL3 with approx same width as the Q3 or Lumix S5 II as others have commented.
