Borna Posted February 26, 2024 Share #1883 Posted February 26, 2024 people that have freezing issues and using Leica thumb grip, put a piece of tape electric tape on the top of the thumb grip. I have heard from a source at Wetzlar that this is a work-around solution. This solution works for M10 freeze too. Usually it was when your using thumb grip and live view at the same time. My friend that put piece of tape on this thumb grip does not have any problems anymore. Maybe this is discussed already.

Nothing to lose, try it. Edited February 26, 2024 by Borna

Ok, I’m sure everyone wants to know more about this now… tape where…..where your thumb contacts the thumbrest?, on the hotshoe contact? Please elaborate or even better provide a diagram. We all want to see this. Thanks.
bkphoto Posted February 27, 2024 Share #1890 Posted February 27, 2024 This is absurd… ”The simplest explanation is usually the best one” M11 software is buggy/crashy because their code is bad—riddled with bugs, and seemingly zero QA/polish on firmware releases. Not because you are using a thumb grip.
charlesphoto99 Posted February 27, 2024 Share #1891 Posted February 27, 2024 Totally absurd and not at all the way a hot shoe works.

The end of the thumb grip needs to be covered. Try it
Borna Posted February 27, 2024 Share #1893 Posted February 27, 2024 In addition to my message, the issue that was present was when live view was on as well. And so far (a year) life is good.
lct Posted February 27, 2024 Share #1894 Posted February 27, 2024 (edited) My M11 works flawlessly although (because?) i'm using a "Thumbie" instead of a thumb grip. I removed its black paint though so it must be a better electricity conductor 😄 Edit: Just kidding but true. lct Posted February 27, 2024 Share #1895 Posted February 27, 2024 I just meant to say that my story is true, not that i believe in the OP's explanation, sorry for any confusion. BTW the "Thumbie" is just stuck on the top plate of the camera with no electric contact to it or the hotshoe whatsoever.

I understood you, but I still think you are not having issues because you have not stuck any thumb grip towards the hot shoe. Just waiting to see if someone else could try this and report back

Just waiting to see if someone else could try this and report back Just tried with the thumb grip of my M240 to no avail, my M11 still works as well as it did with and w/o thumb grip, with and w/o Visoflex 2. If this thread had not 96 pages, i would think the so-called freeze debacle is a mere joke. At least, in my admittedly very short experience, thumb grips are of no visible effect sorry 😎 Edited February 27, 2024 by lct

Just waiting to see if someone else could try this and report back I've used thumb grips on my M9, M9M, M10, M10-P, M10-R and M10M and have not ever had freeze issues with any of them. Why would the M11 be any different? I just examined the thumb grip on my M10M and noted that there is a rubber strip along the back side where it presses against the camera body. Therefore, it seems thumb grips would already be insulated. Edited February 27, 2024 by fotografr
hdmesa Posted February 27, 2024 Share #1899 Posted February 27, 2024 Would it work better if I applied the strip of tape to my forehead and wrote "dummy" on it?
