tjxism Posted July 26, 2023 Share #1681 Posted July 26, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) It should be quite obvious now that the freezing is not relevant to lens code and or storage now. The Leica Q3 suffers from the same issue.

Doubt this is true, likely just less reports. One recent poster here had his M11M die completely. Seems Leica has firmware issues across the board with the new processor/hardware. TheEyesHaveIt Posted July 27, 2023 Share #1684 Posted July 27, 2023 Shot a bit this past weekend and camera got into a freeze state a couple of times. Caused me to miss a few shots sadly. Pretty frustrating as my old Q2 never did this.
James J Posted July 27, 2023 Share #1685 Posted July 27, 2023 I've had my M11 silver for literally 3 days and went for a walk earlier and had it crash twice in less than 10 minutes. First one when I was trying to wake the camera up from its sleep mode which I had set at 1 minute and it just refused to accept any inputs and turning it off and back on also didn't resolve the issue - battery removal did. Not the best start... Second issue was when taking a photo which then came out complete black even though the camera registered it as exposed correctly. This is on a 50mm noctilux 0.95 and I left the lens cap at home so obviously something seriously wrong here. I'm using a 1tb SD card from my Sony A1 and was saving to SD > Int but after the second crash I had wondered if the crashing was caused by the memory card so I swapped it. After googling the issue and finding this thread, I'm less than impressed with the cars value worth of camera gear I now own which isn't even stable. The Sony A1 is flawless in this regard and I took both of them out with me so it's insanely disappointing to have the M11 being this bugged. Using firmware 1.6.1 for reference
jaapv Posted July 27, 2023 Share #1686 Posted July 27, 2023 You MUST format the card, preferably a deep format in SD Formatter, and subsequent format it in the camera if it has been used in another type of camera - this goes for all camera brands. bkphoto Posted July 27, 2023 Share #1687 Posted July 27, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please, everyone - make sure to report all crash situations to Leica (technicalinfo@leicacamerausa.com) so they can help debug further and push out fixes.

I did format it before going out. The one thing I didn’t do was reset the camera after the firmware update which I’ve now done. The SDcard is UHS-1 whilst technical specs recommend the UHS-2 instead. Could this be partly to blame?

Even the Quick format of SD Card Formatter has been working fine with all my cameras for 10+ years.

lct Posted July 28, 2023 Share #1692 Posted July 28, 2023 (edited) As already mentioned in this thread and elsewhere, in complex matters where several causes are at play, let alone unknown ones, nobody can tell that a specific cause is the culprit. Removing possible causes can only be good then, like SD cards not complying with Leica specifications. In my own experience, i haven't got any freeze problems with either UHS 1 or UHS 2 Sandisk cards, but it is true only since firmware update 1.6.1. Until this update, i've got occasional freezes with UHS 2 Sandisk cards, but not with UHS 1 ones. Now again, it was before firmware update 1.6.1 that anyone should make IMHO. Thanks for this, just ordered a sandisk extreme pro 128gb UHS-2 v90 card. I’ve disabled the noise reduction setting as well due to my black screen freeze when taking a photo yesterday. James J Posted July 28, 2023 Share #1694 Posted July 28, 2023 I suppose it’s about removing the potential causes of crashing. Worse case scenario here is I have another fast memory card for my A1 lol.
jaapv Posted July 28, 2023 Share #1695 Posted July 28, 2023 LENR is not a freeze, but it will take as long as the exposure was at speeds slower than (I think) one second.
James J Posted July 28, 2023 Share #1696 Posted July 28, 2023 Okay I put the new card in and went out tonight with the mrs to do some more testing. No crashes since the new card is in the camera so a good start. Hoping its resolved

Still, beta testing is (for some of us) a source of stimulating challenges. Edited August 1, 2023 by scott kirkpatrick 1 1
dugby Posted August 1, 2023 Share #1699 Posted August 1, 2023 Pre-agile/scrum era tech is more likely to resolve the issues, it’s just that the new age can’t get their minds “long enough” into it. 🥷
DadDadDaddyo Posted August 1, 2023 Share #1700 Posted August 1, 2023 (edited) (Sigh). Agile/Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall, Six Sigma, Business Intelligence, Agile Business Intelligence ... These are secular doctrines, complete with advocates, adherents, prophets, monastic orders, orthodoxies, and holy warriors. If you've spent any time at all in a large technology-centered enterprise, you've run into these as they've successively come and gone. There is always a particular subgroup that lusts after the latest and goes to bat, or goes to war, for their particular flag. And each, according to the true believers, provides a unique insight, an unprecedented methodology, toward self-improvement, that is, for the enterprise bold enough, committed enough, to embrace their tenets. Truly, one of the best parts about retirement is freedom from meetings. Most especially, meetings at which one corner of the table advocates for one of these flavors of the month, while another corner poo-poos that flavor, asserting that everyone knows that their own trendy flavor has superceded it. Pure. Utter. Bilgewater. Makes you wonder how any of our long-existing institutions ever, I mean, *ever* managed to achieve anything before the latest whatever-it-is came along. There's simply quality, and concern for excellence, or there isn't. The ball makes it between the goalposts, or it doesn't. The company is able to respond to an evolving world or it isn't. Not all will survive. And thank goodness for that! I believe I've witnessed more time wasted on clashes between the devout in-crowds and the apostate out-crowds of these secular religions than on any other phase of a meeting that can be categorized. And yet, *all* of these True Paths to Enlightenment seem to agree that the single most important step in every business or process or project plan is..... ....the Allocation of Blame. Sorry - just woke up after a great night's sleep and, opening the ol' phone for a quick glance at the forum while waiting for the coffee to finish brewing, ran straight into Agile and Scrum.... Haven't seen or heard those words since retiring. Been too busy. Man! Look at that early morning light raking across the dew-covered garden! Woohoo! Gotta grab the Macro 90 and get my knees wet!
