nicci78 Posted November 8, 2022 Share #4  Posted November 8, 2022 (edited) This is what happen when monopoly is formed. Kodak is now the last and sole colour film manufacturer. Even Fujifilm left the field and let Kodak and Ilford made their film for them. By the way, there are only three B&W film manufacturers left : Kodak, Ilford and Foma. Fujifilm new B&W ACROS II is actually an Ilford made film. This is sad, no more competition in the film industry. Fujifilm should be rename Fujipharma or Fujinstax Edited November 8, 2022 by nicci78
Guest Posted November 8, 2022 Share #5  Posted November 8, 2022 Let’s face it, it’s not Fujifilm’s, or any other film manufacturers’ fault that they let their existing film stocks dwindle and die. Digital was where it was at, the future. Analogue was dead and just needed to be buried. Then came the hipsters and influencers and they got hold of it all. It happened with vinyl records, CDs were it, vinyl was dead, now it’s back.

Fujifilm should be rename Fujipharma or Fujinstax There is also InovisCoat, now under the same ownership as FilmoTec, bringing together the Agfa successor companies from West and East Germany. They'll be selling ORWO branded black and white, and colour film derived from motion picture stock. InovisCoat also makes products for other brands including Adox and Lomography. https://www.orwo.shop It's unclear exactly what Fuji are doing. The once ubiquitous Superia 400 is pretty much unavailable in countries like the UK, though it has appeared in the US with fresh expiry dates. The film production line was reportedly mothballed early in the pandemic, but some sort of production has apparently restarted. Whether that goes all the way back to coating the emulsion is another thing (they could have prepared and cold-stored a large stockpile some time ago for cutting and packaging later, as some rumours have suggested - a fresh expiry date only tells us that a box of film once released is good now and will remain so for another couple of years, not when the stock was coated). Let's hope there is still full production and that Fuji will respond to the current global demand. Edited November 8, 2022 by Anbaric
wattsy Posted November 8, 2022 Share #7 Â Posted November 8, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, hopefully Fujifilm haven't irreversibly halted their film production. Film manufacture is no doubt like vinyl record production. Easy to close down manufacturing capacity during the era of declining sales but difficult/impossible to increase capacity when demand bounces back. BradS Posted November 8, 2022 Share #8 Â Posted November 8, 2022 I bought a three pack of Fuji Superia XTra 400 135-36 at the local Walmart the other day. The box says 'made in japan" and is dated, 11/2024. Rumors of Fuji having left the field are greatly exaggerated (eg. FALSE).

quietglow Posted November 8, 2022 Share #11  Posted November 8, 2022 (edited) I learned how to mix ECN-2 chemistry and have been shooting Kodak Vision3. 50d is probably my favorite color print film of all time. Absolutely beautiful. 250d is a close second. They both have wonderful color and huge latitude. I highly suggest looking into this if you're planning on shooting much color stock. I buy 100' rolls of these, and I think my per roll cost is about $5. No problems with supply whatsoever (36 exposures is less than a second of motion picture film). Is the developing process much different aside from different chemicals and washing off the remjet after blix?
