Also, watching the Hugh Brownstone interview and for anyone else on the fence about the three film cameras, Andrea Pacella said he doesn't see variants as they have two already with silver for M-A or MP and black paint for the MP. He also mentioned the viewfinder is an MP finder. So my fears of the discontinuation of the other models are laid to rest for now.

To be honest, the brass top is the finest improvement over the previous M6

Indeed, that might convince me to buy one, plus the anti-flare coating. I was never happy with the M wind levers on the MP/M-A.

BTW, have we ever seen such a load of responses and comments within 24 hours on a new M since the M9?

Okay, so I was looking, planning on getting a new M-A or MP and now I'm concerned with the change to a new body/internals that they may not support that model any longer. Does anyone else have concerns of repairability issues with either M-A or MP? Maybe this is tied to the rumor about Leica no longer supplying parts to third parties? I like the new M6, the paint mainly, but would prefer the M-A or MP style...hmm.

I doubt the new electronics in the M6 will impact on the M-A …

Surely the MP will be repairable by SOMEONE for many years yet?

I’ve watched a few youtube videos, my uncle has a sweet tool kit, and I’m not that old so no need to worry.

So I see that the price is identical to the MP.  I suspect that other than maybe light meter circuitry/ display, the remainder of the differences are purely cosmetic.
I still think I’d prefer a silver MP.

The re-release steel rim Summilux interests me more.

A few months ago, I looked at all the M6s I could find for sale online in the UK. Of around 20 with photos, at least 4 had some obvious evidence of zinc 'bubbles', though they were only extensive in one case. All were Classics, two were early (Wetzlar), three were black and one was silver chrome. That's a small sample, and perhaps not at all representative, but about 20% were affected to some degree. We could probably do a much better job of estimating the prevalence by polling the members of this forum. My black M6 Classic (Solms) was fine the last time I looked!

I agree with your point about polling, but not just members of this forum as we are a minority in the Leica owning world. Also we have to think about the reason the M6s were up for sale, was it just because of the bubbles, which in that case would slant the percentage figures somewhat. I would just repeat that I have never seen a M6 with bubbles and I know of no one who has, apart from on forums such as ours.

Hide under the dining table until the dust settles.

We’ll get through this.

The dumbest thing I ever heard of.  Take an MP.  Stick an M6 logo on it.  Pretend it’s a new camera with magic special internals.

Bah.

It is not dumb, it is called marketing 😉

Speaking of M7-esque. A better-built version of this would be pretty cool ....

  • Multi-spot metering off most of the shutter curtain area
  • Aperture priority
  • Interchangaeable M lenses (but sadly not all of the Leica ones)
  • Fits in an inside jacket pocket with the smaller lenses mounted
  • 380g weight

Regular-sized coffee cup for scale 😎

I love all the AE M-mount cameras! (M7, Hexar RF, CLE  - although never tried the Zeiss Ikon)
