Summilux 35mm f/1.4 V1 “Steel Rim” will reissues with the new M6

Leica Rumor link

That's interesting. I just studied about M8/M9 and M240 have compatible issue with Summilux 35mm f/1.4 v1 and v2 due baffle on rear can hits the camera chamber. Although M240 supposed solved this issue but the warning statement stills noted on instruction manual.

Coincidentally, in November from Voigtlander, a new 35/1.5 Nokton Vintage styled lens.

Back on subject, the Leica M6.

Time moves forward, and the the M12 is the camera that will sell in big numbers. But then the Leica community also loves the good ol' days, so that opens up for limited runs of "heritage lenses" and a heritage edition of the Leica M6.

It's also a PR move, because the film community i strong. There's a lot of goodwill and newsworthyness in making a film camera in 2022 when everybody else abandoned film many years ago. It contributes greatly to the heritage of the Leica and positions Leica where it belongs as "the digital film camera", which the M very much feels like. When we use our Leica, we fundamentally feel we are still shooting film. There for sure is more money in making a new digital model every 18 months than a film camera that will last for another 50 years. I think it's great that they can do it, and that they do it.

Yes I agree that doing both helps, and it certainly helps that a legacy company like Leica still continues to release film cameras today while others stop.

However like many here, I probably share the sentiment that it would be great to see a release of a film body that is not just a limited edition that Leica is seemingly spitting out every 7 days. I can't keep track anymore and it feels devaluing to the brand to what legacy they do have.

I am all for a new film camera, even though I am satisfied with my MP, I want more people to be involved. I don't think a release or limited edition M6 creates a new customer or widens the field. But I am hoping these are footsteps towards Leica doing that.

When I handle my M7, or MP, M-A etc it actually is remarkable how heavy they are!  Sure they feel fantastic with that ingot-like construction, but sometimes it also seems a little silly.  It would be interesting to see if they can build a lighter camera that still maintains that sense of solidity.

The weight was the first thing I noticed when I first handled one 20 years ago.  The second thing was the silky smooth film advance and shutter.  It was at that point I knew I had to own one.

The problem with making the camera significantly lighter is that it would throw off the balance when a lens is mounted, since the lenses are also heavy for their size.

The weight combined with the metallic feel is what I love about my M3. But the weight in connection with 4800 € will hardly bring new young people to film photography. Especially not in the current recession where only a few have a lot of play money left. A cheaper and possibly not quite as valuable version is required…

We will know averything in one week 😉.

While waiting we can write everything also 😇.

Must admit to my building excitement about the new M6.  I suppose it will have the angle rewind knob and hinged film advance.  But wonder about the metering arrangement (M6 or M6TTL), flash control (TTL?), and viewfinder construction (MP finder?).  And what finishes and materials of construction?  Self timer?  Price point (higher or lower than MP/M-A)?  Parts interchangeability with original M6 models (electronics compatibility would be nice)?

It’s the classic.

👍

Why change Classic M6 ( winner team for me ).

My own unit of "Classic M6" purchased new in 1985 in silver is as durable as my other Ms.

Only once it went for CLA (I don't remember why though, maybe to check for corrosion when I returned from rainy tropical region decades ago).

My feelings about this, if it indeed comes to pass, are summed up by another commenter in the Leica rumors post: "Why do we keep patting Leica on the back for consistently making decisions that don’t benefit photographers?"

500 cameras. For 500 rich persons. #filmisnotdead ? More like #filmisjustanotherlimitededition

So true. And now one can't even get into a new Leica 35mm lens for less than $4k.

Slight digression… if this will be a limited edition model, would they name it after someone famous?  We recently have had the Seal, then Lenny Kravitz etc.  which brings me to wondering has Leica ever named a limited edition camera after a woman?  There have been so many limited edition models.

Well, there's this very limited edition:

They should call it the”Beanie & Beard Edition” as an honor to all the hipsters who helped drive up the price.

..."man bun and beard edition"

(and nose ring for the ladies).

When Leica made only one for the Queen, you are right, that is very limited!  More like an a la carte.

Were there any actual limited edition Leicas named after or honoring women?

I don't recall any. Maybe they think that women aren't daft enough to pay extra for essentially the same camera, or the men they do sell these things to are too chauvinist to buy one honouring a woman?

Half the world’s population are women. There of course have been, and are, incredible women photographers.  As well as other notable women in other fields.  If Leica deems Seal worthy, they must have created limited edition cameras honoring women before him, right?
