Ko.Fe. Posted May 21, 2022 Share #3 Posted May 21, 2022 I like he is not a Leica only and servicing LTM copies (except FSU, those are trap to fix). I also read if he doesn't know how to fix Leica/Leitz gear it goes to D.A.G.

I also read if he doesn't know how to fix Leica/Leitz gear it goes to D.A.G. He doesn't touch M5, and very little with the M7. He does not collimate lenses - those go to DAG. stray cat Posted May 21, 2022 Share #6 Posted May 21, 2022 Thank you very much for his. Just this past Thursday he posted me back my M2. I sent it to him with a problem I thought it had - the frame counter spinning all the time, not securing on frame numbers. This is what he wrote on completion and before shipping it back: Phil, I have your camera done. Leica M2 - The counter dial is good, nothing wrong with it. You did not wind the camera to the end, the counter wheel will be loose and spin. This is the design of the M2 counter system, when winding the camera the counter wheel is loose, only when before and after winding, the counter dial will work properly. This camera is quite smooth, serviced not long time ago, no need for another CLA at this moment. The rangefinder vertical line was slightly off, adjusted. The shutter rollers had too much tension, and loud. I believe Leica did CLA on the camera sometime ago, which is common for Leica serviced cameras and new cameras these days. Before adjustment, 1 sec was 0.88 sec. I have shutter speeds and brake all adjusted, all speeds work well now and the shutter is quieter than used to be. Checked everything in good working order. Tested the camera with a blank roll film made sure film winding and rewinding are all good. Below is the total due: Leica M2 adjust rangefinder/shutter brake & speeds $60.00 Shipping $100.00 Total $160.00 I couldn't be happier with this level of service and helpful advice. Shame about the shipping cost but that's just the reality nowadays and he did warn me.

TomB_tx Posted May 21, 2022 Share #11 Posted May 21, 2022 He did a great job on a 1955 DS M3 given to me after decades stored in a Texas attic - needed new curtains and a lot of work. He has also serviced several of my Japanese ltm clones and lenses. As mentioned, at times he has suggested I send to DAG instead.
malligator Posted May 21, 2022 Share #12 Posted May 21, 2022 I hope he has an intern (or interns) working under him. It would be a shame to lose all of his knowledge and ability when he starts his well-deserved retirement.

CosmoM3 Posted May 21, 2022 Share #15 Posted May 21, 2022 Great guy. He brought life to my Lux 50mm V1 (1958) after a very thorough CLA.
kivis Posted May 22, 2022 Share #16 Posted May 22, 2022 Loved it. Reminds me of my former life as a Nikon F (no meter) owner. Down here was a guy named Pete Smith, the Nikon Smith. He had over 300 Nikon F's he used for parts, swaps, repairs, etc. These guys are a special bunch.
