Don't get me wrong. My 14" M1 max MBP is spectacular. I personally (slightly) prefer Windows but there is nothing that comes close to the MBP when you combine power and battery life. This thing is soooooo fast compared even to my i9 Asus machine. And on battery it's not even close. Even the 12th gen Windows machines look like they have either half the speed or half the battery life. My current machine (11th gen) is about the same plugged (photo editing) but unplug and I get half the power and 1/4 the battery life.

There are definitely things I miss and/or don't like as much as my other Windows machines but there are workarounds for most of them. Mac life seems to be full of workarounds but at least they are there, usually. The only real downside is the lack of a touchscreen, which I really really miss sometimes, and not being able to do a full custom calibration. The screen is good but not as good as my Asus OLED 4K panel. But as a portable powerful travel photo editor nothing comes close, for now.

Right on point, that’s what i miss most on my macbook, battery power at full speed, but upgrading ssd wont be as painful on windows, right now my workflow is ipad pro M1 while my windows laptop, amd 5900hx is a workstation with huge capacity for storing offline

luckily Lightroom work flawlessly between devices, but that’s for another thread

thanks gordon! Im torn between air and 14 pro for portability,  but right now my ipad it is

My iPad pro doesn't work for me as a proper photo device. When I travel I shoot in quantity and LR on iPad is hobbled to not include the ability to export the catalogue without uploading the raw files to the cloud and then downloading them to my laptop/desktop. Even if I could afford Adobes ludicrous fees for cloud storage it still can't handle the 1500-3000 files I might shoot on a GFX100s or M11 in a week on a trip. My iPad Pro M1 certainly has the power but Adobe has basically made it nothing more than a toy for real travel photography. I tried exporting selected files as DNG's but the app crashed as often as not and the export speed is woeful.

For the iPad to become usable I need LR Classic on the iPad and preferably to be able to store the catalogue or images on an external drive. Neither is currently available. For someone working on a few images a day it's fine.

I'm planning on at least a few years with this MBP14 so I basically maxed it out. The SSD upgrade price is painful but I won't have to worry about futzing around. With 4TB on board, external drives are just for backup. Makes working on files on a plane tray table pretty easy. And with one USBC cable I have a workstation at home with a Cintiq and all the peripherals attached. I did pick up a medium Intuous for working on the road. Not as good as a pen enabled screen but doable and wireless. The release of 12gen intel has just confirmed I made the right choice, for me, for now. Maybe 13 will sort out the batterylife/power mix but for now Apple dominates.

Yeah i dont do edit quite as many per days, so far it suffices, and when jumping back on macbook, i might favor the ext. ssd, my work just for occasional paid works and entertainment most of the time

i use the 36mpx binning in m11, the ipad was up for it even the full res 60mpx, m1 already powerful, forget the intel unless they move to 5nm chip like apple silicon

i even think the air would justify my kind of work already

I received my M11 three weeks ago and have been out photographing twice. I also own a M10. I thought I might share what I think is a relevant experience. I’m from Los Angeles and I went to the Santa Monica Pier and beach area. I like the weight and feel of the camera. I especially like the ability to shoot Hybrid so I can photograph wide open in bright light. I have been photographing at 36 MP in Raw. I have run into two problems because of my inexperience with the camera. I accidently switched from Raw to Jpg and I also got dust all over my sensor. (I had it cleaned today.) I must have changed lenses with the sensor exposed. Not good when at the beach. I will make sure to shut the camera off before changing lenses. Also, I will not want the LCD panel showing as it appears easy to accidentally change settings. I do not seem to be able change a setting so the “Fn” never shows live view. I assume when in live view the shutter curtain is open. Any suggestions? Also has anyone found a LCD shield cover they like? I would want one that is easy to remove and not get glue on the screen. I was warned away from Leica's glass shield. Thanks!

Hi louk,

the fn can be assigned to other shortcut menu other than liveview, you should be good to go

There are some like the one in amazon, i got the leica hybrid glass whilst waiting for the others to arrive, first couple of weeks was like everyone reported, started to peel, but a gentle rub get it back in place now going on few more weeks without such problem

i think the hybrid glass was not precisely flat when new, hence the peel off but once it broke the ice, it’s quite good

Not sure to answer your question but a simple way to get a black screen is to disable LV. The shutter will open each time you swhich the camera on though so better switch it off before removing any lens.

Thanks everyone! I bought Expert Shield as I am wary of glass. I have no idea how to disable LV. I will visit the LA leica store for help. Having to shut the camera off is definitely the prudent thing to do to change lenses. All the best
