Popular Post Louis Posted April 18, 2022 Popular Post Share #1  Posted April 18, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Recently, we had many discussions about lenses for CL. As the happy users of this wonderful camera know; CL is a very versatile camera that can be used in different circumstances and with different lenses. This weekend, I took a little walk with my CL and an old manual Nikkor 50mm, f/1.4. Being used to AF, it was a little hard for me (a street shooter) to take the picture of moving subjects; but I am sure with more practice, I can overcome this issue (after all, for many years I was using MF before the digital cameras). And of course, it was much easier for me to focus manually on static subjects. It is all about practicing! But it was another confirmation about how wonderful this camera is and how much it is going to be missed. All, CL with Nikkor 50mm, f/1.4 Welcome, dear visitor! tommonego@gmail.com Posted April 18, 2022 Share #2  Posted April 18, 2022 There is a 105 micro Nikkor on my CL right now, I have used a 55 micro Nikkor than goes down to 1:1 mag. If I am walking around I'll sometimes use a 55 f1.4 7 Artisans APS-C Lmount, mine is a very nice lens, I have heard some not so complementry reviews of the lens. I also use Canon FD lenses, to the extreme of a 90-180 Vivitar flat field macro 3lbs of lens, dwarfs the CL. I also have some M lenses, but they mostly stay with my M cameras. Focusing can be interesting wide open.
lct Posted April 18, 2022 Share #3  Posted April 18, 2022 The CL works more or less the same as other mirrorless cameras with M lenses. No need to focus wide open then but image magnification can be necessary to nail focus. For instance at f/11 here (digital CL, Tessar 35/3.5, Leica macro adapter v2).
Le Chef Posted April 18, 2022 Share #4 Â Posted April 18, 2022 I have tried only once using a manual (35mm Summicron) lens and for me it looked like the scene I wanted to photograph was taking place after dark. It wasn't but I couldn't focus properly and magnification keep interfering with with my framing of the shot. I spent 20+ years using manual focus lenses on Olympuses and Canons perfectly well enough to capture Formula 1 cars at speed, so not sure what I was doing wrong. lct Posted April 18, 2022 Share #5  Posted April 18, 2022 No idea, i do it all the time, including with 35 'crons. Are you using a Leica M to L adapter?
Ba Erv Posted April 18, 2022 Share #6 Â Posted April 18, 2022 My only 50mm is a 35mm FLE on the CL.

lct Posted April 18, 2022 Share #8 Â Posted April 18, 2022 Too late then i fear, it is too painful to trigger image magnification with the arrows. At least for me...

For very closeups, I use Nikkor 85mm, f/18, that works great on a tripod and is very sharp with pleasing bokeh. My 300 is almost impossible to focus handheld; but on tripod and with patience it is better and very sharp. I also have an Angenieux 35-70 with Nikon mount that has a very nice rendering on T and CL. The 28mm also works fine I am really glad I kept these lenses, while I got rid off a few others including 105mm. If Leica comes with another L mount, as I already have an adapter, I can keep using my old manual lenses that are fun to use.
Mr.Prime Posted April 18, 2022 Share #10 Â Posted April 18, 2022 (edited) Recognizing that the m mount is the only one that will still be around when our sun becomes a red giant, I bought and used only manual lenses on my CL. Worked well. Edited April 18, 2022 by Mr.Prime

The Nikkor lens I use mostly with my CL is the 105 micro, the 55 f2.8 micro is an early Nikon AF when they made awful focusing rings, I only use it whan I want 1:1 magnification. I have used a 24 f2 on my CL but it is not as good as the 23 Summicron, my 20mm f2.8 is kind of pointless on the CL when I have the 23 and 11-23. It works well on my M8 and M3, zone focus of course. I keep thinking of picking up a 21 Elmarit or Color Skopar, but not for the CL. I do think my Nikkor lenses perform better on the CL than my Nikon bodies.

Worked well. Same here Mr. Prime.. 4 of my 5 lenses are manual focus M mounted  lenses … Zeiss or Voigtlander, and a 55 Micro  Nikkor. There is a  definite ‘peace of mind factor’. given the  possible future use on many different camera bodies. I can change out of my Leica CL if needed, but keep my lenses.  I must mention that I do not shoot sports or anything that moves faster than my sleeping cat!  LOL

Shawn30 Posted April 19, 2022 Share #15  Posted April 19, 2022 I think I have 3 MF lens's. Summicron R 50mm, Voightlander 15mm, and the Vario Elmar R 75-200 (Minolta). I have to say I really enjoy the different look and colors with the CL and 75-200.
