I am going to hold out to see if I can do the update via the FOTOS app. I really like this feature and obviously will not get to use it often, so this is my chance. How long it takes Leica to include the update in FOTOS, I don't know. I know some wrote about updating the last M11 firmware update with the FOTOS app. Also, I see it as an option in the firmware 1.3.0.0 technical doc.  So hopefully just a matter of time...if I can be patient!

It takes 5sec to update Leicafotos, and few mn to update the FW on the M11, the Iphone and the M11 side by side . Done it like that yesterday. Sooo easy!

Purple haze, all in my brain
Lately things they don't seem the same
Actin' funny, but I don't know why
Excuse me while I kiss the sky

Purple haze, all around
Don't know if I'm comin' up or down
Am I happy or in misery?
What ever it is, that girl put a spell on me

If there's something bad/wrong with the update, shouldn't Leica have pulled the update files off their site and mobile app? I believe they are still up in both places(?)

This is really bad communication on their part. I'm also one of the owners who's now reluctant to update my camera because there's news that Leica wants us to hold off on updating. But on the other hand, I really want all the new benefits of the new firmware that everyone's talking about in this thread.

I just did a test similar to the time yesterday, and I don't see the purple fringing of the 28/1.4 is likely to have improved. In my example/test photo it is actually worse, which is likely because I did this one an hour later (different setting of the sun).

Not going to post the photos now, will do another round that show the actual difference, if any.

I tested the 21/1.4, 50APO, 50/1.4 and Noctilux as well yesterday. 28/1.4 and Nocti have the most purple fringing. Will get back to it later with samples

I also have the feeling that I can not see an improvement. "My" beta M11+ 1.3.0 shows more purple stuff in such scenes than the M10r does in the same scene (I checked with 28/1.4 for example). It can be "corrected" in LR quite good however.

I was concerned initially and kept telling myself to hold off updating for a few days. This message kind of confirms that this is perhaps the most reasonable thing to do with Leica.

Funny thing is that I passed on the first update as I wasn't suffering from button lag, but this time around figured the release was a little less panicked. Apparently not.

I would chalk the scary message up to the fact that Leica had promised new firmware in March and was having trouble deciding just when to cut off and double-check everything before release.

Perhaps someone should explain to them why we've used  X.Y.Z numbering for software releases for over 50 years now. And that a bit more transparency might actually serve to calm things down on all sides by convincing folks that they understand the issues and are working in a methodical way to address them.  Pushing something out, having any number of us install it only to discover a few hours later that we shouldn't have then offering no explanation as to why, engenders little confidence.  Makes the whole process looks like a clown show.

The storage options are still lacking the two I want:  DNG and JPG to SD and the option of either DNG or JPG to IN (DNG for lighter days and JPG for days where I’ll be taking more shots).  Hopefully other people want this setup also and maybe Leica will add this in the next firmware update.

Yesterday I had problems accessing Leica web site to download the FW update.
It showed me error 404 page not found. That was around 16:00h CET.
I think it lasted some time but I am not sure for how long.

Perhaps that was only some problem with the internet here where I live in Sarajevo.
Last months I noticed that the internet got some how laggy , web sites need longer time
to open or did't at all and if opened that some parts of the site where missing until
I reloaded it again.

Later after 19:00h I managed to download and instal new FW update for my M11.
I have't done much testing but from what I can see there are improvements
in the operation of the camera, AWB, features and bugs. Need more time to test
the camera but I think overall that she got much better since I installed this FW.
I just hope that there are no major problems later on because I have to shoot
a fashion week in May. Finally one will be held here in Sarajevo after more than
2 years of life in limbo... Must also see how my M11 behave in the studio after
this FW update. I need her to work with flash without problems. Before this FW
update there was no problems. At least to me...

Yes. Just updated the firmware using FOTOS. I deleted the existing FOTOS on the iPhone, then reloaded it, scanning the FOTOS image on the camera. It said a firmware update was available. Turned WiFi “on” in the camera and the update took but a few minutes.

Likely could also used the cable, but the WiFi worked fine.

For those who are concerned by this apparently old internal message: my local Leica store contacted me today to excitedly tell me there is an update.

Me too, yesterday my local Leica Store informed me, today Leica Germany did. Update process worked flawlessly this time. I am really happy, many of my personal M11 deficiencies are solved, enjoy working with it now. Until now, now freezing...

It seems to be fixed. I cannot reproduce the bug any longer with the latest firmware.

Quick and dirty Highlight Metering test:  ordinarily I have EV Comp at -2/3 and metering set to Multi Field.  For this quick and dirty test, I shot a couple of skyline sunsets on a cloudy evening with breaks in the clouds.  I set the EV Comp to +1, metering to Highlight, pointed and shot.  Images came out well.

That said, the Highlight metering on the M11 and SL2 do not seem to behave the same and I find the M11’s version more… drastic?  With the SL2 it is a preferred metering mode for me, but maybe not on the M11.  This is an initial impression.

There's nothing wrong with the update, nor with Leica's communication. Someone posted a warning, based on an internal information (from nobody knows when( to dealers the the update would be delayed.

Maybe it was delayed, but it's there and it works fine 🙂

Hmm, I was just going to install the firmware.  The new file save options for SD and internal memory are what I’ve been wanting.  Guess I can wait a few more days to make sure the firmware doesn’t have any bugs.

That is working perfectly with 1.3, it was the first option I changed after installing which also went fine...... now I read this thread!!! My M11 is still fully functional.

Doesn’t allow for DNG and jpg to SD card and DNG or JPG to Inter al which is what I want.  Because otherwise you still have to transfer the internal files separately.  I like to keep DNG and jpg versions of my files and would want to save the step of sending jpgs from the internal to the SD before taking the card out and transferring to backups.  It’s one more step.

the perfect setup for me would be DNG and JPG to SD card and DNG to internal.  At the end of the day I take the SD card out to backup my files and then reformat both SD and Internal memory before the next day.

it should let us just pick what to save to each SD and internal separately instead of picking a preset combo.
