I want to see some film photos with this thing.

Somebody dust off their old Barnack and run a short roll through!

Here are a couple -- shot on a IIIf on Delta 100, using the 40mm shoe viewfinder.

I just posted a field report of mine about the Heliar 40mm f2.8 VM.

The article is english the video german only...but you can activate english subtitel if you like.

Hope someone find this helpful. ;)

I ordered one mostly based on your review and I made sure to get the silver version 😉 Thank you!

Now if Voigtländer would just make a 28/2,8 and keep it as compact as this one, I'd be happy.

So I received it on Wednesday and only used it for a couple of shots (due to time constraints) and already spotted a single dust particle behind the front lens element with no idea on how to clean it. Keep in mind that the lens is brand new and was treated with most care. Did this happen to anybody else?

I'm not sure if I shall go back to the dealer or contact Voigtländer directly. Any recommendations?

Unless it is a great big lump of dust it won’t make any difference to your pictures.

No idea where the OP is, but In the UK the buyer’s contract is with the person who sold the item, so it should returned to the dealer in this case.

All lenses will take in dust, but I would have expected a new lens to be clean for longer than ‘a couple of shots’.

If you’re really concerned about it, take it back to the dealer.
Just for balance, I bought a silver ltm version on launch and there is no dust inside.  I’ve used it on my iiif, MP and M10-R, it’s a great little lens!

Interesting how he says the 35 summaron outperforms the 40 heliar in all but the corners. Nice tip about the hack to lock@ 2m.

Owning both lenses, I would disagree.

Does anyone one know the filter size of the front lens hood? I've been trying to search online but could only find the filter size  of the front ring which is 34mm.

The reason I ask is that I'd like to put a black pro mist diffusion filter and corresponding stepup ring. I think this lens needs I slight softening imo 😄. Not into too clinical rendering these days

I have no idea but hoods like CV 21/4's, 25/4's and perhaps this 40/2.8's have a female thread as opposed to filters so you would need a step up ring with double female thread i suspect but i may be completely wrong.

I don’t think there is a filter thread on the lenshood, other than to screw it on.

What looks like a thread inside the hood are circular baffles.

If I wanted to fit another filter on the end of the lenshood I would look for something that was about the same fit as the lens cap and maybe add a bit of soft felt to take up any slack in the fit.

If you are looking for 34mm filters, the old Leitz ones made for the 50mm Summar and 90mm Elmar lenses are 34mm, but they don’t have a thread on the end to screw the lenshood back on.
