Is this new visoflex useful for focusing? The prior ones I find too slow, too poor resolution, etc.

Every now and then I'd like to focus on something off-axis where the rangefinder doesn't reach. Is this one up to the task?

Any news on firmware update for M10's to use Visoflex 2?

nothing now.

I don't see any benefit to buy the Visoflex 2 if you are using M10. Maybe the fact that you can see the shutter speeds set.

M10 can only drive one resolution so the Visoflex 2 will only show you a smaller picture. you will loose GPS function . and it is more expensive.

The only benefit would be to use one Visoflex 2 if you have both M10 and M11.

For those who want to compare the size of the older 020 model with the new Visoflex 2 model I took some snaps of an M11 and M10M side by side.  Besides the technical advantages I find the new model better integrated and less as an afterthought when mounted on an M.

Hope this helps those who are still deciding and have doubts about the size of the new Visoflex versus the old one.

(My apologies for the crappy iPhone picture quality)

I did not write anything. Pushed "quote" too soon. Thanks STEF. Can you tell me if the newer visoflex 2 has. a bigger viewing hole, that one looks through, than the original visoflex? Thanks

Thanks for the images.
Is it possible to have a front view comparison ?

Which the only one missing.

The new Visoflex has a design flaw, covered elsewhere in this forum. The front panel is held on by flimsy plastic and came off which the camera in my bag. I have taped it on for now until my dealer gets a new one. The resolution on the new one is certainly better and aids greatly in focusing. I don’t get people who say you don’t need one. Shooting wide it is essential. Some lenses seem to back focus to a degree and it alleviates that problem. I also refuse to give up  modern tool like the histogram for the sake of tradition. Shooting in black and white on the M it allows me to previsualize and select filters. All good reasons to use it.

Losing GPS is a disappointment although the old GPS barely worked anyway.

I am not sure whether this issue is covered before. Does the new Visoflex offer visual image stabilization on M10? I find the old Visoflex image too jumpy when magnified during focusing.

Image stabilization should work only with M11. AFAIK, it is implemented in the camera, not in the Visoflex.

Hi all, thank you for the nice responses and it seems my initial post helped people to make their decision or raised an interest in the new Visoflex.  I promise I’ll try to find some time over the weekend for some more comparison shots (also from the front like @nicci78 requested).

The rectangular viewing hole is roughly 16 mm on the horizontal side on the newer one, where the old one is approximately 12 mm.  So yes, it is substantially bigger.  It comes close to the size of the SL2.

Thanks for all of this Stef. When using both, side by side, is the view (and ease of focus) a LARGE. and better difference in the new one or just a smaller beneficial difference?

I'm wearing multifocal glasses since over a year.  Mostly for reading and arm length distances. Far sight is still ok.  Now, multifocal lenses should be used MOST or better ALL the time because your brain needs to adapt.  And from experience, that can take some time.

When using the rangefinder OVF in combination with say a 28 mm and my glasses, I cannot see the whole frame.  With the old style EVF I have the same issue.  So up until now I was used to taking pictures without my glasses.

However, with the M11 and when using wider than 35 mm, longer than 75 mm or the Noctilux for example, I can keep my glasses on and still see the whole frame through the new EVF.  Also for 35 to 75 mm I now keep my glasses on and use the OVF.  All this is a night and day difference in usability for me.

The increased resolution, stabilization and faster throughput makes using the new Visoflex also better experience.  So to answer your question :  Yes, for me personal there is a LARGE benefit.  For non-glass wearers, that difference might be not as large.  But it is certainly a better experience.

I don't wear glasses, so your comment tells me that it would not be a major benefit.
