Leica M11- That ugly exposed USB-C Port - let’s talk about it

My question is why didn't they make the rest of the body IPX certified (apart from the lens mount) than just the usb port . Lol

Make it more rugged not just 'look' rugged in the reporter

- durablack paint finish, not scratchable

- X no.  weather sealing points ( like the fp is weather sealed; it has an open mount)

- shockproof like a gshock

Gone are a days when you can crack open a walnut with a film M or use it as weapon against a assailant.

The weather sealing is as strong as the weakest part. The weakest part is typically the lens mount.

That didn't stop Sigma making a 42 point weather sealed camera in the fp/L

Look members here are passionate about the M. It's just feels like the M can be/ could of been more. Especially when it's at a luxury category...

Luxury products do not get into rain :). I see M cameras as professional tools, that happen to be bought mainly by amateurs who unnecessarily pamper their cameras. Take the camera into the snow and rain. It will do just fine.

It'll be fine for a while. But put through pervasive weather then one will find the bodies' inside has gone to hell...

He's a crackpot but he knows about cameras lol

Some Leica users would leave the plastic on their baseplates and say it didn't matter to them how that looked.  I hope none of those people are the ones who are now complaining about how the bottom of the M11 looks.  Personally I love the new design. I'll remove that sticker -although I think it's intended a bit isn't it?  Also, I love the rewind knob.  Having never used a film Leica, the design seems absolutely perfect in every way.  I use it very frequently when I shoot.

sorry does not bother me at all, I find the new bottom perfectly fine. USB-c port is fine where it is and good riddance to the stupid bottom plate.

I wish they would do away with the stupid ISO dial posing as a rewind. Knob

You are so so right on all of the above. You need fingernails like Fu Manchu to lift that bloody ISO stump.

Are you guys really that delicate? You can leave it on M and change it in the menu as it is. You don’t need an M11 for that.

On my M10 that I have used extensively for the past few years it pops up with a perfect amout of resistance. With my M10 Monochrom I can't get it up with one hand and have to use both thumbs.  Still doesn't bother me though. I just leave it up after that first pop. And it is so beautifully designed that it stays up until I want to push it back down.  I much prefer it over a button/screen implentation.  That said, the M9 had the best button ISO implementation because you didn't have to actually read the numbers.  Once you learned the position of the various numbers you could set the ISO very quickly just by telling what area was highlighted.  I'm sure that was confusing to anyone who hasn't used an M9 but I'm not sure how to explain it any more clearly.

I’m not sure you’ve really thought this through….

Well this is true.

but I think we are just talking here. I’m not taking this seriously at all.

I already have the perfect camera for me. The M10R is really more than I would ever need. I hardly know enough to get the most out of this camera. And TBH I don’t think I will ever get all out of it.

IMO the lenses will make more of an impact in my pictures, plus me obviously getting better at making the pictures.

Complaining on the internet is the new fun thing to do. I don’t think any of it is really serious.

it’s a silly thing to comment on. The bottom of a camera. But man. 🤮

I look at this port every time I take the M11out, because that’s what I use my cameras for, to look and appreciate their bottoms. To that end, I try really hard to shoot them with the bottom plate turned up so that I can see it, which makes the rangefinder experience and pressing the shutter much more difficult. Really wish Leica would address this for shooters who like me, buy their Leicas to shoot them upside down so that we can appreciate the baseplate at all times. I want a more ergonomic camera that fits my shooting style and love of baseplates, it’s crazy to me Leica hasn’t addressed this since they released the Barnack over 100 years ago…is this 2022?!

To me being able to charge the battery or transfer files directly from the camera is a nice to have feature, but that’s besides the point. : p

Yes. That CE thing is the worst. I don’t know what they were thinking.

Im not sure I understand why you are complaining about the CE label...its on your M10R as well in the same exact spot and has been on the bottom of every single digital M. Its a regulatory requirement. Where exactly would you like it to go?

Not it’s not! 🤣

and I’m not left with a huge square indentation there either. 🤮

The issue isn’t  the sticker, it’s that they made a permanent square indentation for it. Like a plaque of honor or something. If you remove the sticker that’s what’s left  a square indentation…

I mean  I’m assuming you can take it out and it isn’t etched into that square? Probably it is…

10R… Clean. Classic. Awesome.

That M11 bottom is tragic.. makes my eyes bleed

Oh I don’t know. I’ve never owned a camera that proudly displayed that information. Now there’s a special permanent indentation for it.

my Fuji hid it inside the sd card door. Don’t the rest just make it part of the body? The same color so it becomes invisible? 🤷🏻‍♂️  These polymer bodies. The Fuji bottom and top were titanium so, they hid it away.

only Leica displays it so prominently. Like a badge of honor.

They could’ve just made it flat and put a sticker like before so we could take that off..  it’s like intel stickers on your laptop
