As heretical as it sounds, I might also trade in my M10M. It also is a phenomenal camera, but its look is so different from the SL2's B&W.

Hi John, I understand your dilemma about the SL2 and M10M versus the M11.

I currently have an M10 M10M, M11+EVF and SL2.  If one has to go it will obviously be the M10.  But now that I'm using the M11 for some days I consider to let go a second camera.  The M10M is a phenomenal camera and for me the 2 strong points are high ISO and the "native" B&W which forces you to always think in B&W.

The SL2 on the other hand lost it's advantage it had over my M10 (more pixels to crop, far better EVF than Visoflex 020 for wider than 28 and longer than 90 lenses). So there is a lot to say about dumping the SL2 as I do not have SL lenses.

But the SL2 has IBIS.  And I still have to try my Telyt R 280 on the M11 to see if I can live without IBIS and the balace with such a large lens and the lighter black version is still ok.  And also with a 1.4x or 2x convertor.

Dilemma !

The M10M is phenomenal, and I hate to think of parting with it, but it is turning into the odd pup. The PP is very different, and I think I prefer the ability to adjust the colors in a B&W conversion. Funny thing, I always think in B&W; all my cameras are set to monochrome.

I love the Ms, but have found that the SL2 is the best of all worlds. It can do anything. I hadn't thought too much about trading in the M10R until I saw the tech talk. I guess one thing pushing me to the M11 is being able to cull things down. For me, one M is better than two. Whatever you do, don't stick an SL prime on your SL2. It'll cost you.

If you consider that if you keep the m11 for 10 years, and it costs you 2k above the trade in of your m10r to get the 11, its only 54 cents a day for 10 years to have the m11.  Also, since the m11 is 18 months or so newer than the m10r, you can think of it as just paying 2k to extend the life of your camera for 18 months and you get the newest model.

For those that just purchased a m10r recently its not great, but for early adopters, its a blessing that Leica hasn't lowered the cost of the 10r.  This reduces the loss from the trade in.

You can also sell your m10r now for the maximum value, wait a few months and pick up a used m11. you might actually break even or maybe just pay a few hundred bucks to flip your used m10-r for a used m11.

Are you selling cars for business?

Does this mean the elimination, or at least diminution, of the "red flag" effect seen with lenses like the 21mm f4.5 ZM Biogon?

Hi, Rick!

There may be less "Italian Flag" from short "film" wide-angles (21 f/4.5 Biogon, old Super-Angulons, C/V 15mm version 1/2) with the M11.

But that will be due mostly to the BSI sensor technology (Back-Side Illumination) - the sensor is created "backwards" to traditional sensors, so that the light-sensitive bits are closer to the front of the sensor, less shadowed by the silicon's circuitry, and better able to accept low-angle light rays (like film gelatin always could) without spill-over to neighboring colored pixels.

I haven't seen tests yet - presumably someone will try some of those ultra-compact superwide lenses pretty soon, to find out if the BSI sensor helps a little, or a lot.

I saw quite a few people typing Kodochrome Red" in the live chat.  I haven't been doing photography to appreciate this but it seems like kodochrome was a film or camera type back in the film days?

A film type?  It’s a song by Paul Simon as far as I know.

Jesko also mentioned, selecting lower resolution in camera vs taking a 60MP file then down res in Lightroom provides the same noise and dynamic range benefits.

I gathered that the lower res options are more of a space saving feature than anything else. Since the same benefits can be had in post.

If that’s really the case, and the only benefit insofar would be the homeopathic improvement of colors at high ISO reported in another thread, I will rather save the money and buy some Leica lenses I‘m lusting for to combine with my M10R.

IMO, if you have to choose, it is always better to buy lenses than bodies.
