I just purchased a new bag from this new line of camera bags called https://redtalecrafts.com  Apparently a collaboration between Red Tale Crafts and RocknRoll ( the well known camera strap company) *The bag was shipped to me from Cyprus.

I purchased their HAVANA BAG LARGE – CHARCOAL specifically because I don't think this bag looks like an expensive bag out-of-the box and a rugged/manly/comfortable look ...to me. I don't think I'll worry about a stain or scratch or three, on this bag.

This bag comes in both small and large sizes. I chose the large size for more flexibility to include packing the M11 plus SL2 which is a typical carry kit for me. The bag doesn't have a lot of padding so feels fine when carrying a large bag with minimal gear. I think the slim padding is sufficient some may feel other wise. Makes for a very light weight bag.

Note: Comes with a separate top handle that also doubles as a trolly handle

What are those studs for on the upper straps? Those on the leather on the pockets are what the straps fasten to but what about the upper ones?

Those can be used to strap down a tripod to the top of the bag. Or maybe even an umbrella:

Thanks. Tripod straps are handy on bigger bags.

Can't go wrong with Billingham. From front to back: M combination bag, Hadley small pro, Hadley pro 2020. I can fit everything easily into either, and choose bag depending on what else I need to carry. For example, if I need to carry a laptop I'll take the Hadley pro. The strap is from 595strapco. Not 100% convinced with the peak design strap system, I might go back to just regular straps.

I also use other messenger style bags with my Billingham inserts if I need to be extra stylish.

How would you compare the Combination bag to the Hadley Small Pro?

I have used various Billingham bags over the years, but recently switched to a Wotancraft pilot 7L after unscucesfully trying to buy a replacement insert for my Hadley Pro - Billingham have gone overboard with the Brexit restrictions and I was unable to source replacement inserts here in Spain in 2022. Their bags are nice, and I didn't mind paying extra for them, but that was on the understanding that they stood by their products... I am very happy with the Wotancraft.

Mostly I take only the camera with 35 or 50 mm lens and wear it crossbody. In bad weather or if I need a little storage for an iPhone or something like that I take this little Lacoste bag. It is similar size to a Billingham stowaway but only half the price.

The combination bag surprisingly fits almost the same amount of gear in the main compartment. Given you can lay one m with lens attached horizontally on top. The Hadley small pro has more pockets, and also fits a kindle/ipad or a thin book between the padded insert and the back. I sold the combination bag and kept the Hadley small, as I find it prettier and more practical.

FWIW, new Oberwerth LHSA Leo bags have been announced: link.

The LHSA bag is extremely well thought out. Not inexpensive but neither is the equipment. I appreciate the top opening and the fact that in use, the side opening can be set to not fully open to retain and fumbled equipment.

Nice!

They seem to come with a hidden airtag pocket. Is it useful?

SrMi,

I put AirTags in any bag I use*. The fact that these bags have a specific hidden spot for a AirTag just shows you how well thought out the entire design and execution is. I have the smaller of the two designs. It does not scream “camera bag”, but it does look like an expensive bag of some sort, which it is. That will work fine in most places. The places it will not work are places I don’t recommend being. Maybe it helps that I am 6’4” and look mean?
Most importantly with any bag, don’t leave bag in your car!

Yeah, the AirTag will tell you where the bad guy took your bag, but It’s better for when I forget where I hid it last.

Originally, I was a “camera over my shoulder and an extra lens in my pocket” guy. During the pandemic I just kept buying great lenses and finally said if I was going to carry a range of lenses why not get a bag designed by a Leica expert? Thankfully I was not disappointed, I was very appreciative. As beautiful as the leather is, I would not hesitate to take it on a short hike. So it gets scuffed up a bit, it’s to be used.

Jack

* I had an AirTag in a camera bag with an M10 Reporter I mailed to Mike Johnston of TOP. It started beeping and he asked what was going on. If you lend out a bag with an AirTag in it, best tell the recipient it’s is tagged.

Got this Zegna/Leica holster/strap today at a great price as it was last one to go with my f1 Noctilux & M11 that was assembled on April 22 & delivered stateside May 5.

FWIW, left it on driving to the office this afternoon & it didn’t obstruct at all. Actually, I noticed it rests perfect for a street shot while waiting at red light if desired.  For a relatively heavy M lens/camera combination the holster feels really comfortable and is super easy to access or disappear to the side or behind me under my blazer, that I’m rarely without, when necessary.

Feels a bit like Christmas morning today.

Handsome, but not a fan of any of those zippers.  And, like the Oberwerth SL bag I briefly owned (and traded on the Billingham Hadley One), too rigidly structured for my tastes.  But this is why bag threads proliferate.

Jeff

They should have used nylon zippers imho.

Ive gone hipster with a sling bag (Bellroy 6L). Comfortable for camera + additional lens. Any more - I’d probably go 9L.

Having used messenger bags in the past - I like the weight and size of the sling + having it at my chest - just feels more secure.

I own several bags Oberwerth, Billingham etc. However, I must confess that for me for my M11 the most practical has been the Nomatic Slng by Peter McKinnon 8L. It is as if it was made for the M11. It can very conformably fit the M11 and 3 lenses and or more if you double the lenses up with the OP/TECH USA Double Lens Mount Cap.

Here is the link: https://www.nomatic.com/collections/camera-slings/products/mckinnon-camera-sling-8l

It is incredibly practical with interior pockets for filters, memory cards, extra battery etc. The quick latch system is great for changing lenses on the fly. It even has a luggage pass strap.

It is also very well made and weather sealed. I always feel my gear is well protected and It is great to be able to keep it close to me in a very compact unobtrusive bag.
