Looking at the pictures on my mobile phone. Simply, wow! The tonality is unlike any other Monochrom I’ve seen before, like the M9M just better, a lot better. Plus, it adds huge cropability. Mine is in my car. I will do a comparison with the M10M to make sure I’m not hallucinating. Thank you!

Glad to hear it works on a phone! always a bit of an issue!

Thank, Jono, as usual.  Nevertheless, I’ll happily stick with my M10M (and MM), preferring its simplicity, quiet and responsive shutter, compatibility with my M10-R (and nice black paint), and already stellar results in print.  Rendering results depend mostly on me, even between my two Monochroms. And, as I print small-ish, only use RF, and have no need for super high ISO, many of the M11/M11M attributes are wasted on me. No need to fix what ain’t broken.  But good to see that Leica remains committed to the Monochrom line.

Hmmm, while its a good review and obviously great camera, I’d be careful of GAS hyperbole if I were you. The M10M is a great performer and with the same technique as Jono the tonality etc isn’t that far behind or much different from the M11M. But I’m sure those actual comparisons will be along soon.

It could be Jono’s processing. The M11M images look so creamy and the tones are so rich. I’m sure his M10M pictures would have looked equally good. I’ll do side by side comparisons and post the links to the DNGs.

I appreciate Jono's review and the pics look nice. That said, I've never once been able to make a judgment about a camera from web sized jpgs that have been processed by the user. It begins and ends with getting a raw file that I've processed - and ideally, also shot myself. The side by side crops with the M11 show something instructive, but the photographs - all of them could be done by the M10M depending on how you deal with files. Not knowing processing or exposure, I'd say the M11M looks to be just as sensitive with highlights, or least practically so, as the M10M - which is to say, you probably need to use similar technique to protect them. Recoverable blown highlights via color channels on a color sensor is maybe the only IQ advantage, but it looks like the color ones still have that advantage.

Rest of it looks great and as another user said, not all relevant for my uses.

I do appreciate that Leica got Andre Wagner to do the ads I just got in my inbox though - he's one of the best dudes using the M's today.

Hi There

Good points - it's a really hard take - incidentally if you go to my website https://www.slack.co.uk you can click on the images for full sized jpgs which you can zoom in on. Some of them are as much as 25mb - should give you a better idea than web sized jpgs.

I can also happily supply DNG files, but I've long since come to the conclusion that showing them isn't terribly useful - especially with a monochrom where they tend to look flat and especially with this one with it's huge dynamic range - you kinda have to do some post processing.

As for the highlights I'm not sure that it's better - I just always take evasive action (never blow them). What is better than the M10M is the ability to pull quality details from the shadow areas.

All the best

Great comparison with the M10M in this video but this guy seems obsessed with differences in detail and sharpness. The main difference to my eyes is the wider tonal range of the M11M. The wider distribution of tones in the night scene with the bridge and the church is so obvious. This confirms what Jono showed. I’m so lusting after the M11M tones already. Never felt this way about the M246 and the M10M where I always used a yellow filter as a standard.

Good review, Jono. I'm still quite happy with the M9M, but it's tempting, especially the BSI sensor. That sensor makes the SL2-S an available-light monster, and stripping off the Bayer array would be gravy.

You should probably stick to Barbour jackets.

With every new release prices a constantly rising. The number of people willing or able to afford a new Leica is shrinking. In a few years Leica rangefinders will become a rich man's toy rather than a tool for photographers. I have been using Leica M's since 2008. I am kind of a Leica fan boy and I'm really worried about the future of Leica rangefinders.
