Not much changed over the last 2 days.  50 and 35 keep strengthening their lead.  Even the top 8 did not change.

No.  I’m a photographer and I’ll never know what it feels like to have a bag of diamonds around my neck!

You might ask your wife/girlfriend if she would like to carry such a bag with diamonds...

thanks for the data. I didn't expect to see more 90 than 75. Interesting.

True but take into account that a lot more versions of the 90mm exist than 75mm.  That could explain we see double 90mm vs 75mm. It seems to me that we got data mostly from people “collecting” lenses.  Average of more than 9 lenses per Leica M user seems unusual high to me.

If you take out the multiples for the same focal length the score for the 90 vs the 75 is 66% vs 50%, meaning from all the respondents 66% indicated to have one (or more) 90mm lenses versus one out of two having at least one 75mm.

That's a very good point. Maybe with equal # of versions (hypothetically) in both FL, would we still have more 90s than 75s?

For those who are interested in which focal length is the most popular I took out all the multiple lenses and what you see now is that the numbers are much closer.  So from the 77 respondents 99% have at least one 50mm, 92% at least one 35mm and so on.

To be complete above table is based on the latest data with a total of 719 lenses and 9,3 average per user.

Thanks Stef63 for your effort of statistics.

If I had added my number * of 50 lenses, your statistics would change quite a bit 😉

👍 99% for 50 Focal is already so good, we would never reach 100%, it  would be meaningless anyway.

* not counting them for many years now, so I have no idea of this number

Looks like a 28 champion here!:)

Ha!  Maybe - given that I have a pair of Edition 60s and yet rarely use a 35…

I’m actually wondering if with the M11 high-res sensor 28 will become the “New 35”?
I don’t have a Q2 but the “cropability” seems to have persuaded some die-hard 35ers to widen their view as it were.

Wondering how the 28 Lux will fare as a walkaround…🤔

since its not in the top 10, how many have stated to have the 18mm?

18mm is just out of the top ten on position 11 with 9 people having a total of 10 lenses.

The number of 21's as opposed to 18 mm lenses surprised me also.  I do have a 18 Super Elmar Asph but no 21 mm.

I'm surprised by how many people are "surprised" by how important the 21mm focal length has been in Leica history.

Speaking just for myself, a 20 or 21mm lens has been the very first lens I bought in any new camera system since 1977. Because I was heavily influenced by all these Leica photographers.

Or Jill Freedman's Firehouse - made with a Leica and 21 and 35 lenses, and a Nikon for 105 and 180 lenses:

Or the work of Paul Fusco for LOOK magazine and Magnum, using Leica M 21/28/35, plus a Nikon for longer lenses:

The list goes on and on: Fred Maroon, Will McBride, Ernst Haas. They all had 21s in their M arsenal, for their dramatic illustrative photos.

9,3 average per user.

That is quite a lot, probably caused by people having max 2 lenses being less represented in this survey. If they were included the distance between 50 and 35 might change too.

Thank you very much @Stef63 for all the data science!  When I started the thread I hoped to glean such insights but not necessarily through such a comprehensive stats.  Great findings!  50 rules but an enormous amount of 28s and 90s was a surprise.  Using 75 and 90 is refreshing.  Lots of other inspiration here…
