As I've looked into Fogg more, the main worry I have is it is run by a single person now (his partner passed away recently). So in terms of long term support / repair for the bag, there's quite a limited window. Billingham has been in business for over 50 years and seems like it'll be continuing to exist well into the future.

What sort of long term bag support do you have in mind? If that was my main worry, I would just buy a Fogg bag and use it.

Well as it states in this review (https://www.slack.co.uk/fogg-and-the-new-satchmo.html), "my first B-Laika became a little frayed around the edges after 5 years being used every day" - Billingham offers a repair service to replace leather, fix broken stitching, etc. All things I imagine would happen over the years.

You have to use them fairly intensively to get to a level of wear that requires repair. I have had my b-minor and b-major around that time; I use one or the other almost daily and there is no sign of fraying. But in the end it is entirely your choice what you find a main worry in choosing a bag. FWIW I have owned Billinghams (I now have just an Avea pouch) and they are equally durable IMO.

And - FWIW - my main concern in considering Fogg bags was the opposite: knowing that both Nigel and bee had been around a long time and might retire from the business before I had a chance to get one (though sadly bee has now gone). I now have three, and good recollections of buying them. When they wear out, I will still have had the enjoyment of owning and using them - these thoughts apply (mutatis mutandis) to everything else in life, really.

I didn’t know about bee’s passing….so sorry to hear about that.  I had a nice email exchange with her not too long ago, after having gone many years without communications.  She had a quirky sense of humor and, along with Nigel, took a lot of pride in their work, down to the smallest  details.

This is the first I have heard of bee's passing - such terribly sad news.  Nigel, you have our deepest sympathies.  May bee and Bella both rest in peace.

I've never thought to worry about a bag.  It's just a bag.  And most any cobbler would be able to fix stuff like that.

Ended up ordering the Flute. Quite the premium over a Billingham Stowaway but also is lighter, slightly smaller, and has a flap vs a zipper. I do like the look of it from the photos - assuming it doesn’t fade too fast. Hope I made the right choice.

Although I have just the one Fogg bag (Last Waltz), I have to say that IMHO, you can't go wrong with any of the other Fogg bags.  They are simply the best bags made.

How’s the water resistance of the Fogg bags? I don’t plan on standing out in the pouring rain, but what if you’re caught for a bit or walking around in a drizzle?

You'll be fine unless it's accompanied by heavy Fog.

Pete. ^_^

The canvas is waterproof. Nigel recommends treating the leather with dubbin annually.

This would not be a problem IMHO.

Sprinkles/drizzles/light rain = fine.  Medium to heavy rain = a good day for your Billingham.

Or you could hedge your bets by carrying a square of clear plastic painter's drop cloth in your Fogg bag to act as an emergency raincoat.

I saw the news that the lovely Bee had passed on just the other day.

I’d had several bouts of email correspondence with her and she was a lovely person to deal with.

Another change (at least I think it was a change) is that you cannot order directly from Fogg now, just their small selection of retailers.

Well wish I hadn't found this thread, just bought two from Robert White in the UK, ugh.

Why buyer's remorse?  Fogg bags may not be the cheapest but they are better made than anything out there.  I'm still using a Bumble Bee purchased around 1989 - it even has their original Wanstead (UK) address stamp inside.  I have other Fogg bags but this remains my most used on a daily basis.

I'm sure you will enjoy your purchase for many years to come.
