Advertisement Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 Hi Lelmer, Take a look here Leica Summaron-M 28mm or Elmarit. 2.8 or 5.6. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

I own both the Elmarit-M 28mm ASPH and the 50mm Summarit-M f/2.5, and they are a wonderful combination. There is only about 1mm difference in size between the two and I believe both are about 180g, so the combination is excellent for travel around town or around the world. I use the Elmarit quite a bit at sunset and dusk, and having the 2.8 aperture is very useful and not something that I would give up for my only 28mm.

I own many of Leica's significant M lenses beginning from my Dads 1968 1.2 Noctilux, 35 1.4 V2 Ti Summilux, 50 APO, 50 1.4 pre-asph, F1 Noctilux etc etc yet the most significant photograph in our home is a 60"X40" enlargement taken with the 28 5.6 Summaron and M10Monochrom combination and every person who visits our home says the image takes their breath away. So I am very much in the camp of the 28 5.6. My 28 1.4 Summilux is an amazing lens and I feel one of Leica's finest modern M lenses, yet this picture would not look as it does if it were taken with the modern 28 1.4. Of course having a wide aperture is required if you want a shallow DOF but, for me, using it to turn night into day is not a good use. If it's dark, it's dark. 5.6 is usable in low light, no problem even on the low iso M9. Welcome, dear visitor! Its "organic" wear. The Safari is pretty soft though. I am surprised at how quickly it brasses!
LeicaS2 Posted April 3, 2022 Share #27 Posted April 3, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I like the 5.6 better. The lens looks so old, no one thinks the camera is more than a toy and ignore it. Welcome, dear visitor! Danner Posted April 3, 2022 Share #28 Posted April 3, 2022 Elmarit first, then add the Summaron as your 2nd, or 3rd 28. IMHO.

I use one on my film MP and one on my M10-P. The portability, ease of use, the way it looks on my black camera bodies, and of course - the way it renders, all make it one of my favorite daily carry lenses.
Ouroboros Posted April 4, 2022 Share #31 Posted April 4, 2022 Summaron. No need for a hood, the front element is recessed deeply enough to make a hood superfluous and render the camera pocketable. If you can't keep your fingers out of the way of a lens, sell your gear and use the money to retrain as a plumber.

Have had 2 28 Elmarit's but it's the summarons that get used. Use hoodless as well. Matte black, though @Kreeshp, very cool.
